The social media community is grieving the loss of Maria Sofia Valim, a 19-year-old Brazilian influencer, who passed away due to health complications following an emergency liver transplant. Maria Sofia’s father, Vitor Valim, who serves as the mayor of Caucaia in Brazil, announced the tragic news on Saturday through an emotional post on Instagram.
In the heartfelt statement, Valim expressed the deepest pain and sadness as he informed everyone about the unexpected demise of his beloved daughter. Unfortunately, despite the emergency liver transplant, Maria Sofia’s body did not survive, leading to an outpouring of condolences and support from friends, family, and followers.
“Thank you everyone for the prayers and affection dedicated to me and my family in this moment of extreme suffering,” Vitor Valim wrote in the translated statement. He also requested understanding and shared that the wake and burial ceremonies would be limited to family only.
Just two days before the heartbreaking announcement, Valim had shared a hopeful update on Maria Sofia’s health. The young influencer, who was studying to become a lawyer, had successfully undergone a liver transplant after finding a compatible donor.
“After following the legal procedures and joining the liver transplant queue, Sofia was able to find a donor due to the urgency of her case,” Valim said in the Instagram statement. “This morning a compatible donor was found, and the surgery was carried out successfully. However, the next 48 hours will still be observation so that we can know if Sofia’s body will accept the new organ.”
Maria Sofia had shared moments of her life, including attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Brazil, with her followers on Instagram. The news of her passing elicited an emotional response from fans and fellow influencers who expressed their grief and shared tributes on her posts.
