Rest In Peace-Mexican Singer-Songwriter and Telenovela Actor, Dead at 27

Julián Figueroa was a popular singer and songwriter in Mexico. His albums include “Julián Figueroa y su banda.” He was also an actor known for the characters he portrayed on telenovelas. His most recent acting job was on the telenovela “Mi camino es amarte.”

ANDI Mexico, the guild for Mexican actors, was the first to share the sad news that Figueroa has died. He was only 27 years old.

On Sunday April 9, 2023, in a tweet translated from Spanish to English by Deadline, ANDI explained, “The National Association of Performers communicates the death of member Julián Figueroa. Actor and singer, has launched various albums like ‘Julián Figueroa y su banda.’ To his family and friends, our sincerest condolences.”

ANDI did not include a cause of death, but the next day, Figueroa’s mother, Mexican actress Maribel Guardia, posted about her son’s death on Instagram, and her post did include a cause of death.

Billboard translated Guardia’s post from Spanish to English. The translation reads, “It saddens me to announce the passing of my beloved son Julián Figueroa, who has unfortunately preceded us in parting from this level.”

Then, Guardia explained the circumstances of her son’s death. She was at the theater while her son was at home in his room. He was unconscious so someone “called 911 and when the ambulance and police arrived, they found him already lifeless, with no traces of violence.”

Guardia included the cause of death. She explained that according to the medical report “he died of an acute myocardial infarction and ventricular fibrillation.”

Figueroa’s father, Joan Sebastian, had also been a popular singer in Mexico. He died in 2015. Figueroa’s final Instagram post, which Figueroa posted just one day before he died, was about his father’s death and how much he missed him.

Billboard translated the post from Spanish to English. Part of the translation reads, “The fans cry LONG LIVE THE PEOPLE’S POET, but I don’t give a damn, I ONLY LOVE MY DAD.”

Figueroa is survived by his wife, Ime Garza, his son, José Julián, who is six years old, and four of his six siblings, José Manuel, Juliana, Zarelea, Marcelina and Joana. Two of his siblings, Trigo Figueroa and Juan Sebastián, were murdered.

Rest in peace.
