Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss’s Cause of Death Confirmed

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner has determined that Stephen “tWitch” Boss’s cause of death was suicide.

County officials confirm that the 40-year-old professional dancer passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in a statement to PEOPLE. He passed away on Tuesday in a motel in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Encino.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner, the case is officially finished.

Allison Holker Boss, a former contestant on So You Think You Can Dance, the late star’s wife, spoke to PEOPLE on Wednesday about her husband’s passing.

Allison, 34, announced, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share that my husband Stephen has left us.” “Stephen brought light into every space he entered. Above all else, he treasured his family, friends, and community. He believed that the best way to lead was to lead with love and light. He served as the foundation of our family, was the best husband and father, and served as an example to his followers.”

It would be an understatement to say that he left a legacy, and his beneficial influence will still be felt, she added. “There won’t be a day that goes by that we don’t remember him, I’m positive of that. During this trying moment for myself and especially for our three kids, we kindly request your privacy.”

Allison ended her post by writing, “Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you,” as a message to her husband.

Boss is survived by Allison and his children Zaia, 3, Maddox, 6, and Weslie, 14.

Before finishing in second place on Star Search, Boss gained notoriety as a participant on MTV’s The Wade Robson Project. In 2008, he later participated in So You Think You Can Dance, finishing the season as runner-up and then making a comeback as an All-Star. When the program came again in 2022, he served as a judge.

Boss debuted as a guest DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014. He eventually established himself as a regular character on the show, and in 2020, he was promoted to co-executive producer.

In response to the heartbreaking news, Ellen DeGeneres posted a touching message and a picture of the couple hugging.

“I’m devastated. tWitch was only pure light and love “On Instagram, she posted. “I had nothing but love to give him because he was my family. He will be missed.”

“Please offer your love and support to Allison and his lovely children — Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia,” DeGeneres said in her closing statement.

Boss’s buddies from So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars as well as celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, JoJo Siwa, and Jada Pinkett Smith paid tribute to him online.

Pinkett Smith wrote, “He was very kind, gentle, and generous.” “So many people endure silent suffering. I wish he had realized he wasn’t have to. May the Great Supreme hold his radiant, beautiful soul in His arms, and may the same Higher Power mend the broken hearts of his loved ones.”
