Sometimes what you see on social media isn’t all that it seems. That’s reportedly the case in the Miller family.
The New York Post reports that Candice Miller, who runs a blog called Mama & Tata with her sister, shared pictures of her family and life on Instagram. The pictures made her family’s life looks luxurious and perfect including a family who truly loved each other and wealth most of us can only dream about. Plus, her circle of friends included names like Ivanka Trump and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.
The family had homes in both Manhattan and The Hamptons. They owned cars including a 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster and a 1971 Ferrari Daytona coupe. In June, Candice and her daughters were on a lavish vacation in Europe, spending time at the Amalfi Coast, when their perfect lives came crashing down.
All of those luxuries the family enjoyed came at a cost, and reportedly Candice’s husband, real estate developer Brandon Miller, knew the family was spending above their means. In fact, they were $17 million in debt.
Perhaps because of this debt, Brandon committed suicide while his wife and daughters were on vacation. PEOPLE reports that a carbon monoxide alarm in their home alerted first responders to visit the home. They found Brandon in his vehicle unconscious on June 30, 2024.
Brandon was transported to the hospital where he was put on life support. His family flew home to see him and was able to see him before he died on July 3rd. He was 43 years old.
The family’s home in the Hamptons is now for sale on Bespoke Real Estate with an asking price of over $15 million.
A Hamptons socialist explained the financial predicament the Miller family found themselves in. She said, “It’s no longer keeping up with the Joneses. It’s like keeping up with the Bezoses, but no one can compete.” She added, “They were living way beyond their means, and now the truth has come out. There are probably 10 or 20 people in the Hamptons who qualify as billionaires. But you can be sure they’re not the ones sharing their lives on Instagram.”

Sources told the Post that Brandon borrowed $17 million from friends, and months before his death, he was hit with two lawsuits.
It’s unknown if Candice knew about her family’s financial situation or if Brandon kept it from her. At least one source told the Post that Candice had no idea about the financial problems.
