In an update on his health, legendary singer Elton John is admitting things haven’t gotten better.
In September, Elton announced on Instagram that he’s “been dealing with a severe eye infection” that “has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.”
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” the singer shared with his fans. “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.”
Elton said that he’s “been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”
Now, in an interview with Good Morning America, Elton told Robin Roberts that he’s he hasn’t regain vision in that eye since.
“I’ve unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July,” the singer explained. “I had an infection in [the] South of France, and it’s been four months now that I haven’t been able to see.”
And his left eye isn’t much better, Elton continued.
“There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment,” he shared while on GMA, “because I can do something like this [interview], but going into the studio and recording…I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for start.”

As a result, Elton said his focus has been on his health and getting better.
“We’re taking initiative to try and get it better,” Elton continued. “But at the moment, that’s really what I’m concentrating on. It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen.”
“It kinda floored me, and I can’t see anything. I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything,” he admitted.
During a showing of his new documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Sept. 6, Elton revealed that his young sons Zachary and Elijah often “think about my mortality,” People reported.
“They worry about my mortality,” Elton is heard saying in the documentary. “Not so much David (Furnish), but me.”
Elton said his kids hope that he’ll to be around for their big moments in life. The 77-year-old said he worries about that too.
Zachary and Elijah “love their daddy, so they want me to be around forever, [and] I would love to be around forever,” Elton said.
“I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. Who knows?” the singer said. “You never know.”
“So that’s why I want to use the best time — the best of my time — while I’m around. Time together is so wonderful and so precious.”
