Police are investigating the death of popular South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron.
The 24-year-old โBloodhoundsโ actress was reportedly found dead at her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea at around 4:50 p.m. Sunday, according toย The Korea Herald.ย
Sae-ronโs body was discovered by a friend who had plans of meeting up with her. The friend, who remains anonymous, called the police shortly after.
โWe have not found any signs of foul play as of yet, but we are investigating the circumstances of the death,โ a local police official said, perย Yonhap News Agency, which was first to report the news.
No further details have been provided, as of Feb. 16.
Sae-ron rose to fame as a child actor in 2009
Sae-ron, who was born in Seoul in 2000, was once one of South Koreaโs most promising actresses.
Sheย began actingย at the age of nine and quickly rose to prominence in the 2009 film โA Brand New Life,โ which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won her two awards in 2010.ย
Her rise to stardom continued with her role in the 2010 film โThe Man From Nowhere,โ which was theย highest-grossing filmย in South Korea that year.
She later starred in the 2012 thriller โThe Neighbourโ and 2014 film โA Girl at My Doorโ before appearing in a handful of TV series over the next eight years.
In 2022, Sae-ronโs career stalled following a drunk driving accident that saw the star actress arrested and held responsible for cutting off power to the Gangnam District in Seoul, according toย Rolling Stone.ย
Sae-ron was fined 20 million won (ยฃ11,000) in April 2023.
The incident also resulted in Sae-ron stepping down from her role in the drama series โTrolley,โ according to theย South China Morning Post.
While she attempted a comeback several months later with her role in Netflixโs 2023 Korean drama โBloodhounds,โ most of her scenes were cut out due to the incident, perย Variety.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of Sae-ronโs death. No further details have been provided.
