Emmanuel Macron was applauded after he addressed Donald Trump’s inaccurate claims by gently holding his arm and providing clarification.

During a press conference in Washington, the 47-year-old French president took the opportunity to set the record straight when the 78-year-old former U.S. President suggested in an interview that Ukraine was exploiting U.S. support in its defense against Russia. Trump asserted it was time for the U.S. to be reimbursed.

Macron responded to these remarks, emphasizing, “This war has cost all of us significantly, and Russia bears responsibility as the aggressor.”

Trump confidently interjected, claiming, “Europe is loaning money to Ukraine. They get their money back.”

Macron, at this moment, gently interrupted Trump, clarifying with his hand on Trump’s wrist,

“No, to be honest, we contributed 60% to the effort. Similar to the U.S., we have provided loans, guarantees, grants, and substantial financial aid.”

He elaborated, “If eventually, they reimburse us, that’s a plus – but ultimately, we have made the payments.”

Trump, upon hearing this, reluctantly acknowledged, “If you believe that, it’s OK with me.” Still, he stuck to his original statement: “But Europe gets their money back, and we don’t.”
