Harry and Meghan Reveal What Really Happened During Dramatic Final Appearance as Working Royals with William and Kate

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Share Insights on Their Last Appearance as Working Royals

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared some heartfelt insights about their last day as working royals. This event took place during the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration, merely two months after they had announced their decision to step back from their royal roles.

Back in January 2020, Harry and Meghan made a public statement about their plans to step down as senior members of the royal family. Their final official appearance followed soon after at Westminster Abbey, where they joined Queen Elizabeth II, then-Prince Charles, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

In the five years since that momentous decision, Meghan has embarked on new ventures, including a new Netflix series called With Love, Meghan. Through this series, she teams up with celebrity guests to share cooking tips and entertaining advice.

Unveiling Royal Life: Meghan and Harry’s 2022 Docu-Series

In 2022, Harry and Meghan released a revealing docu-series offering viewers an in-depth look into royal life. It surprised many with its honest portrayal of what goes on behind the palace doors.

Reflecting on their final engagement at Westminster Abbey, Meghan recounted: “The first time that we saw the other members of the family was in public at Westminster Abbey.” Harry elaborated, sharing, “We were nervous seeing the family because all the TV cameras and everybody watching at home and in the audience. It’s like living through a soap opera where everybody else views you as entertainment.”

During the service, Harry and Meghan were seated behind William and Kate. Despite Meghan’s friendly smiles, waves, and greetings as the others settled into the front row, Harry noticed a stark contrast in the atmosphere.

He reflected, “I felt really distant from the rest of my family. It was interesting because so much of how they operate is about appearances rather than feelings. It looked cold. But it also felt cold.”

A Personal Note from the Queen: Acknowledging Harry and Meghan’s New Path

After Harry and Meghan announced their decision to step back from royal duties, Queen Elizabeth took the rare step of issuing a personal statement. She expressed: “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.

“While we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
