Bindi Sue Irwin is sharing a message from her hospital bed after undergoing multiple procedures.
The message comes after Bindi Sue’s brother, Robert Irwin, revealed she had to undergo an emergency appendectomy and would be unable to attend the Steve Irwin Gala.
In the video, Bindi Sue thanked everyone for their “incredible well wishes,” revealing she had just gotten out of surgery about an hour ago.
“I had my appendix removed. I also had 14 new endometriosis lesions that had to be removed, and they kindly stitched up my hernia as well,” Bindi Sue explained.
The wife and mom of one has been an outspoken advocate for women with endometriosis since she was diagnosed after giving birth to her daughter, Grace.
“I am forever grateful to Dr. Seckin and the entire team at Lennox Hill Hospital. Thank you guys for your kind words for your support. I’m sorry if I’m a little out of it in this video, but I just wanted you to know that I’m on the road to recovery one step at a time,” Bindi continued, adding how lucky she is “to have so much love in my life from my beautiful family.”
In the caption, Bindi Sue admitted these surgeries were a longtime coming.
“After many months of a grumbly appendix, I finally had to seek help the day of our Steve Irwin Gala,” she explained. “After consulting with Dr. Seckin, we agreed that if I flew to New York, he could also check for endometriosis again.”
Calling the surgery “a success,” Bindi said the 14 endometriosis lesions were in addition to the “37 endometriosis lesions” and cyst she had “removed two years ago.”
Bindi’s friends and family shared their well-wishes in the comments section of her post.
Robert wrote, “Stay strong Bindi! Love you!” And her husband, Chandler Powell called her the “strongest person I know.”
While her former Dancing With the Stars partner Derek Hough added, “My beautiful Angel. Love you.”
Fans also thanked Bindi for being an advocate for those with endometriosis.
“Bindi, you are the reason I learned about endometriosis and was able to get diagnosed last year after years of terrible pain. You have made such a major difference in my life. Endo sucks and nobody should have to go through it, you’re such a valuable advocate for us as you share your journey with the world,” one commenter read. “I had a feeling endo might’ve been involved when Robert announced your appendicitis at the gala, I heard it causes trouble with the appendix sometimes. According to Mayo Clinic, endometriosis “is an often-painful condition in which tissue that is similar to the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It often affects the ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining the pelvis. Rarely, endometriosis growths may be found beyond the area where pelvic organs are located.”
