Donald Trump has once again managed to capture the public’s attention, this time with a peculiar speech that has everyone talking. The focus of his latest remarks? Grass. It’s sparked chatter about his renovation of the White House Rose Garden.

Recently, Donald Trump, the former US President, delivered a speech that many found quite confusing. Known for his controversial statements, Trump got people wondering if he was being serious about the topic he chose to address.
Trump, a frequent figure in the media, doesnโt shy away from making headlinesโoften through his words more than his actions. His recent activity includes using his platform, Truth Social, to express dissatisfaction with a news station altering its brand identity and critiquing a public figure for imitating his online demeanor.
However, it’s his comments on grass that have truly stirred the pot.

Standing before the press, Trump proclaimed himself the ultimate authority on grass due to his extensive experience with golf courses. With a flair typical of his speeches, he declared, โOne of the things weโre going to be redoing is your parks. I have a lot of golf courses all over the place. I know more about grass than any human being, I think, anywhere in the world.โ
He went on to mention that โgrass has a life,โ noting that the grass in Washington, D.C. reportedly died decades ago. This left many on social media platforms pondering if perhaps Trump had lost touch with reality.
The internet was alive with reactions. X users, for instance, shared their opinions on Trump’s comments about grass, some questioning his sanity. One notably sarcastic remark read: โI would say yes, he has lost his mind, but that would imply that he had a mind to begin with.โ Others chimed in, likening his leadership to that of a prolonged comedic act.
๐จWTF: In a bizarre moment, Trump rants about grass at DC parks: โI know more about grass than any human beingโฆ Grass has a life. We have a life, and grass has a life. The grass here died about 40 years ago.โ

Interestingly, a number of people saw it differently, citing his ownership of numerous golf courses as evidence of his expertise: โHe owns golf courses. The man knows his grass.โ
On the other hand, some critics connected his grass remarks to his decision to replace the White House Rose Gardenโs lush lawns with a more hardscaped environment. A notable tweet pointed out the irony: โSo why did he pave over the Rose Garden, grass and all.โ

In 2025, Trump ordered a substantial modification of the Rose Garden, replacing the grass with white stone in a project agreed to cost nearly $2 million. His reasoning reportedly involved practical aspects, as he explained: โWe had the press here yesterday. You see the women? Theyโre going crazy. The grass was wet. Their heels are going right through the grass like 4 inches deep.โ
It seems the motivation was to avoid issues like soggy grass ruining formal events. Trump described the new stone surface, highlighting its pleasing aesthetic and purported practical benefits, such as reflecting heat due to its color: โAnd itโs a beautiful white stone. And itโs a stone thatโs the same color as the White House itself. And because itโs very white, itโs going to reflect the heat. Itโs not going to be very hot, like if you had a dark stone.โ
As Trump put it, the revamped garden has received positive feedback, despite the absence of grass: โSo, yeah, weโve gotten great reviews on the Rose Garden.โ
Perhaps, in the end, the decision to part with grass simply stemmed from a dislike for messy lawns.
