Popular ‘Brat Pack’ Actor Arrested

Kiefer Sutherland, a longtime film and television star, was arrested early Monday following an alleged altercation with a ride-share driver, police said, per NBC News.

Sutherland, 59, was taken into custody near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood. Los Angeles police responded to a report of an assault around 12:15 a.m., according to LAPD Officer Kevin Terzes, who confirmed the arrest in an email on Tuesday.

“The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats toward the victim,” Officer Terzes said.

Sutherland’s representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday night.

According to Officer Kevin Terzes per NBC News, the alleged victim did not suffer any injuries that required medical treatment at the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing. Jail records show Sutherland was booked shortly after 4 a.m. on an unspecified felony charge. He was given $50,000 bail and released about seven hours later. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 2.

Kiefer Sutherland is a Canadian-born actor, producer, director, and musician who has been a major presence in film and television since the 1980s. Born Dec. 21, 1966, in London, England, he is the son of legendary actor Donald Sutherland and actress Shirley Douglas.

Sutherland rose to fame as part of the “Brat Pack” era, appearing in iconic films such as Stand by Me (1986), The Lost Boys (1987), and Flatliners (1990). His career reached new heights in 2001 when he starred as counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer on the hit Fox series 24. The role earned him an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe, and multiple Screen Actors Guild nominations, cementing his status as a television powerhouse.

Beyond acting, Sutherland has directed and produced film and TV projects and later starred as President Tom Kirkman on ABC’s Designated Survivor. He is also a country-rock musician, releasing albums including Down in a Hole (2016) and touring internationally.
