Since the chilling surveillance images in the abduction of Nancy Guthrie were shared by the FBI, a fascinating focus has emerged— the suspect’s eyes.

Startling Photos Unveiled

The recently discovered images present a masked and armed figure seen outside the 84-year-old woman’s Tucson, Arizona home just as she vanished in the early morning.

As the relentless search for Nancy Guthrie intensifies and enters its 11th day, these unsettling images and an accompanying video were made public last Thursday. This provides the first major clues in the investigation, sparking interest in determining more about the unidentified individual.

As per the images unveiled by FBI Director Kash Patel, the figure is shown fiddling with the video doorbell at Nancy’s home. This person is wearing a balaclava, gloves, a zipped coat, and carries a backpack.

It’s now the tenth day since Nancy was last seen. There have been two ransom demands for $6 million in bitcoin, but they’ve gone unanswered, with no explicit threats mentioned if the demands remain unmet.

In his statement, Patel mentioned: “For the past eight days, the FBI, in collaboration with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, has been diligently working with private sector allies to retrieve any possibly lost or corrupted images, or those made unavailable due to confiscated recording devices from Nancy’s home.”

“The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.

Examining the Eyebrows and Eyes

“Through our continuous efforts with partners, law enforcement has now accessed new images that were previously inaccessible, showing an armed figure meddling with the camera at the entrance on the disappearance morning.”

While no suspect stands officially identified, social media users have eagerly dissected these photos, particularly zeroing in on the eyes showing between the mask and hood.

Observations suggest that the suspect could be female, based on the shape of the eyebrows and eyes.

One observer stated, “The eyebrows are arched—it could easily point to a woman.”

“Those eyes remind me of a woman’s,” mentioned another.

And someone else added, “Who’s to say that isn’t a woman?”

On the other hand, some pointed out the body language in the accompanying video, describing the suspect’s manner of walking as more traditionally masculine. There’s also speculation of facial hair beneath the mask, yet law enforcement hasn’t confirmed any gender specifics of the person caught on tape.

This latest release is, so far, the biggest development since Nancy went missing on February 1. She was last seen when her son-in-law drove her home after a family gathering.

The FBI’s release appears to have triggered an influx of new leads, with the unnerving footage shocking many, as the suspect is seen tampering with the security systems early that morning, according to a CNN report.

Former FBI agent Mark Harrigan has suggested that the awkward way both the gun and the Nest camera were handled indicates that the person might be a novice.

“This approach to carrying a gun is quite unusual,” remarked Harrigan in a conversation with the New York Post. He highlighted how the suspect bizarrely holstered the gun in front.

“Having it out in plain sight is odd,” Harrigan elaborated, “If you’re planning a crime, concealing the weapon is the norm to avoid drawing attention.”

“Such handling suggests someone who isn’t accustomed to carrying a gun,” he continued, drawing on his role as the ex-chief of the FBI’s Firearms Training Program.

“Usually, carrying on the hip is less cumbersome. This suspect might have kept it in a backpack initially, only choosing to position it at the waist near the door,” he reasoned.

Progress in Investigation

Until now, details on who might have taken Nancy remained scant. Yet recently, law enforcement retained one man for questioning in an attempt to shed light on the case.

Carlos, the man briefly held, described an unexpected encounter with police while driving with his wife. Upon being pulled over and exiting his vehicle, he found himself taken for questioning, he said.

Nevertheless, Carlos was freed shortly after, recounting his experience: “I explained to them my job at GLS in Tucson might involve delivering to her home—however, I haven’t abducted anyone. They held me from late afternoon until now.”
