Times are challenging for the Royal Family. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, previously known as Prince Andrew, was taken into custody last week under suspicion of misconduct in public office. Despite this, the royal duties must proceed. On Sunday, Prince William and Kate Middleton made an appearance at the 2026 BAFTAs. According to a body language expert, they appeared “anxious,” and Prince William issued a cautionary three-word message to his spouse.
In the history of the Royal Family, numerous scandals have emerged. However, recent events seem to surpass them. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s association with the late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and the notorious Epstein files have been heavily publicized. After losing his royal titles and being removed from his residence by his brother, King Charles, Andrew’s recent arrest has intensified the family’s turmoil.
King Charles issued a statement soon after, expressing their openness to an investigation. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the 2026 BAFTAs as planned.
When asked about his thoughts on the movie ‘Hamnet,’ which deals with the death of William Shakespeare’s 11-year-old son, William candidly shared, “I need to be in quite a calm state and I am not at the moment.”
This remark was perceived by many as an indication of his current emotional state following Andrew’s arrest. While the royals have largely refrained from commenting on these family scandals, body language expert Judi James suggests that it’s evident the situation has affected William and Kate.
Discussing this with PageSix, Judi James highlighted that William and Kate’s behavior wasn’t typical of their usual royal demeanor. She observed that the events of the past week have undeniably caused tension.
“They walk side by side with their arms hanging loose, and their inner hands dangling closely implies a desire to hold hands or offer each other their usual touches, pats, and strokes as a means of support,” James explained. “William’s slightly curled fingers where his index touches his thumb hints at a self-soothing gesture,” she added about the future king.
William Issues a Caution to Kate
The body language expert also noted Prince William’s “anxiety” during the BAFTAs, particularly in a moment when his lips were pursed and his brows were furrowed.
Even during trying times, Prince William’s care for his wife is evident. As per Express, he gently reminded Kate Middleton to “watch your step” as they traversed the red carpet on their way to the gala.
Kate didn’t seem to react to his warning immediately.
