Working for one of the most famous families in the world might seem like a dream job—but for Kylie Jenner’s former assistant Victoria Villarroel, there came a moment when she knew it was time to walk away.
Villarroel, who worked closely with the beauty mogul from 2015 to 2020, recently opened up about her experience and the surprising moment that led to her decision to leave. Speaking on the Better Half with Stas and Vic podcast, she reflected on how her professional relationship with Jenner naturally evolved into something much more personal.

“This is like year five,” Victoria said. “Me and Kylie, obviously we had a working relationship. But you can’t not get so close to a person that you see every single day and you know everything about and you’re with them at all times, good or bad. You just become close to this person.”
Over time, that closeness made it harder to maintain traditional boundaries between boss and employee. And according to Villarroel, the realization that things had shifted came during a surprisingly ordinary moment at home.
Villarroel recalled being in the kitchen with Jenner when the reality star mentioned she needed her laptop from upstairs.
“And I was like, ‘Oof, who’s gonna get that?’” she said with a laugh. “‘I don’t want to go get your laptop.’”
While it may seem like a small exchange, Villarroel said it was a turning point. Both she and Jenner recognized that their dynamic had changed—and that it might be time for her to move on to something new.
That moment sparked a bigger conversation about her future, one that Villarroel admitted initially made her nervous.
“I remember being so nervous and thinking, like, ‘Am I making the right decision? What if I’m leaving the best thing—best job I could ever have?’” she said. “’Cause people were in my ear being like, ‘You’re gonna leave? People would die for this job.’”
Despite the uncertainty, Villarroel said Jenner handled the situation with kindness and encouragement.
“Oh my god, Vic, I want you to thrive, and I’m gonna be here supporting you. And I love you so much,” Jenner told her.
That reassurance helped Villarroel feel confident about taking the next step in her career.
Before becoming Jenner’s assistant, Villarroel had built experience working in media and fashion, including an internship at Teen Vogue and a role at Kris Jenner’s Jenner Communications. She eventually transitioned into working for both Kylie and Kendall Jenner before focusing solely on Kylie as her business ventures expanded.
“At the time, it became too difficult to do both of them at the same time,” she explained, noting that Kylie’s growing brand, Kylie Cosmetics, required more of her attention—especially as her role became more creative.
Even as she shifted her focus to Kylie, Villarroel made sure to maintain a positive relationship with Kendall Jenner, even jokingly offering a replacement. “I told Kendall, I was like, ‘Please don’t hate me. I have a peace offering: my sister, my DNA,’” she said. “’Basically you get me, but you probably will like her more because she’s way more like you.’”
Today, Villarroel looks back on her time with Jenner fondly, emphasizing that her departure wasn’t about dissatisfaction—but growth.
Her story highlights a reality many people face, even in high-profile careers: sometimes, the hardest decision is leaving something good to pursue something better.
