Every parent’s biggest wish is for their children to be healthy and experience a happy childhood. Karen Rodas and Paul Bybkin shared this wish, but their happiness was cut short when their son Nathaniel passed away just 36 hours after he was born. Nathaniel had Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a condition that causes cysts to grow in the kidneys and often leads to kidney failure. The couple’s worst fear came true when their daughter Maddy was born with the same condition, and her tummy was swollen, resembling that of a 9-months pregnant woman.
However, this time things took a turn for the better. Maddy was given a second chance at life, thanks to her brave and loving daddy who made the ultimate sacrifice. Paul donated one of his kidneys to save his daughter’s life. Before the surgery, Maddy struggled with her health, spending most of her time in and out of hospitals and sleeping up to 18 hours a day. The family was informed that finding a suitable donor was crucial for Maddy to have a chance at a normal life, and luckily, her daddy was a match!
The surgery was a complete success, and both Maddy and Paul recovered perfectly. Karen, filled with gratitude, said, “Daddy’s kidney has saved our little girl. Now, she has boundless energy. Her once-massive tummy now just looks a little bit rounded, and she is a happy and healthy two-year-old.”
Paul, humble and selfless, believes that any father would have done the same for their child. He said, “We have been on a rollercoaster, but donating my kidney to Maddy is what any father would do. It’s part of being a parent.” The family is now filled with joy and can witness Maddy growing up as a happy and healthy little girl. While Maddy might need another transplant surgery in 25 years, for now, she has many years ahead of her to enjoy and live life to the fullest.
We are filled with happiness for this amazing family and wish them all the joy and blessings life can bring. Share their heartwarming story with your loved ones and join us in sending them well wishes for their continued well-being.
