Actor From “General Hospital” And “Knots Landing” Has Passed Away

Soap Opera Actor Doug Sheehan has passed away. He was 75.

Sheehan is best known for playing Joe Kelly on “General Hospital” and Ben Gibson on “Knots Landing”. The actor died on June 29 at his house in Big Horn, Wyoming per an announcement made by Kane Funeral Home.

Doug Sheehan is an American actor whose career spanned several decades. He had prominent roles in both daytime and primetime television. Born Douglas Stuart Sheehan on April 27, 1949, in Santa Monica, California, he grew up in the Los Angeles area.

Sheehan’s entry into the world of acting began with theater, where he perfected his acting before transitioning to television. His breakout role came in 1979 when he joined “General Hospital,” one of the most popular soap operas of the time. Sheehan played Joe Kelly, a private investigator, and quickly became a fan favorite. His character was involved in numerous high-stakes storylines, including dramatic romances and thrilling mysteries. His character helped boost the show’s ratings.

On “Knots Landing,” he portrayed Ben Gibson, a journalist who becomes romantically involved with one of the show’s central characters, Valene Ewing, played by Joan Van Ark. Sheehan’s character’s relationship with Valene became one of the series’ most beloved storylines. He remained with “Knots Landing” until 1987.

In 1988, he starred in the NBC sitcom “Day by Day,” where he played Brian Harper, a former stockbroker who opens a daycare center with his wife.. He continued to make guest appearances on numerous TV shows throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including “Murder, She Wrote,” “Clueless,” and “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.”

Sheehan is survived by his wife.
