American Idol Star Passed Away At 32

Formerย American Idolย contestant Doug Kiker has passed away at the age of 32. His sisters, Angela Evans and Donna Kiker Carrillos-Ramirez, confirmed the news inย Facebookย posts on Wednesday, March 12.

โ€œIt is with a heavyย  heart that we have to announce the passing of my brotherย ย Douglas Kikerย  he was soooย  loved and will be missedย  by so many! Your singing with the Angelโ€™s now Bubbaย  Please pray for our familyย  as we go threw thisย  very difficultย  timeโ€

His cause of death has not been released.

Doug Kiker, an Alabama native affectionately known as โ€œThe Singing Garbage Man,โ€ gained national recognition during Season 18 of American Idol. His heartfelt performance of Rascal Flattsโ€™ Bless the Broken Road deeply moved judge Katy Perry, even bringing her to tears.

Although he was eliminated from the competition, Kiker returned for the season finale, delivering a virtual performance of his audition song. However, in the months following his time on the show, Kiker made headlines again after being arrested and charged in connection with a domestic violence incident.

His family set up aย GoFundMeย to cover the costs of bringing him home and for funeral expenses. โ€œWe are reaching out for help to honor Douglasโ€™s memory and give him a proper farewell. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly to the funeral costs and allow us to navigate this difficult time without the added financial burden. Thank you for your love, support, and generosity during this incredibly difficult time. We greatly appreciate each and everyone of yall.โ€

According toย TMZ, Doug is survived by his two children, whom he shared with his ex-fiancรฉe, Valerie Cook.
