Barbara Mandrell met her husband when she was just 14: Now shares the secret to their happy and lasting relationship

I’ve always been a fan of country music, but it wasn’t until later in life that I discovered the incredible talent of Barbara Mandrell. Once I heard her voice, I knew she was something truly special. She is a living legend and one of the greatest female entertainers of all time. At the age of 73, Barbara continues to shine like the star she is!

Born on December 25, 1948, in Los Angeles, Barbara Mandrell was destined for a life of music. Even as a young girl, she could read piano notes before she learned English. By the age of 11, she was already performing in shows in Las Vegas. It was clear from the beginning that Barbara’s path in life was music.

Barbara’s father played a crucial role in her musical journey. He pushed and encouraged her to make a name for herself in the industry. He even became her manager. In 1968, the family moved to Nashville, the heart of country music, where Barbara’s success truly took off. She signed a record contract and soon her songs were topping the charts.

It was thanks to her father that Barbara met her future husband, Ken Dudney. They first crossed paths when Barbara’s dad hired Ken to be the drummer of the Mandrell Family Band. She was just 14 years old at the time, while Ken was 21.

They fell in love instantly, but there was a hurdle to overcome – Ken was engaged to another girl. Eventually, he made the difficult decision to break off the engagement. Four years after they first met, Barbara and Ken got married on May 28, 1967.

Barbara and Ken’s relationship faced its share of challenges. Barbara was focused on her career while Ken served as a pilot in the Navy. They were separated during Ken’s service in Vietnam. Despite the distance, their love remained strong. Together, they raised three children and built a lasting marriage.

So what’s the secret behind Barbara and Ken’s happy and lasting relationship? In Barbara’s own words, “There are times when Ken and I would like to put each other through a wall!” Like any couple, they have their disagreements and struggles. But they credit their strong marriage to their faith in God. Barbara believes that their marriage is not just between the two of them, but also with God. Their commitment and love for each other have carried them through the toughest times.

Barbara Mandrell’s talent and contributions to country music have been recognized with numerous awards, including her induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009. She is not only a musical icon but also a remarkable person. Barbara’s beauty and vitality at the age of 73 continue to inspire. She attributes her physical well-being to her mother’s genes and her disciplined approach to fitness.

Barbara Mandrell is an extraordinary woman who embodies unconditional love and allows it to shine through. Alongside other country music legends like Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, and Loretta Lynn, she will always hold a special place in my heart.
