Bill Murray Explodes At Fan Who Got Too Close In NYC Movie Theater

Bill Murray found himself in a viral moment this week—but this time, it wasn’t on screen.

The 74-year-old Ghostbusters star was filmed in a tense confrontation at a New York City movie theater after a fan appeared to invade his personal space.

In a TikTok clip that’s quickly making the rounds, Murray can be seen walking through the lobby when a fan seemingly bumps into him while holding a phone.

Murray quickly spun around, pointed at the individual, and shouted, “You attack me like that again, I’ll step on your foot.”

A nearby security guard quickly stepped in, trailing Murray as he accused the fan of “physical assault.” As the actor walked away, the fan could be heard apologizing, but Murray wasn’t done. “Don’t do it again!” he snapped before exiting.

Take a look at the video below.

The incident reportedly took place at AMC Lincoln Square 13, where Murray had been attending a Q&A for his new film The Friend, co-starring Naomi Watts. The movie, adapted from Sigrid Nunez’s award-winning novel, follows a New York writer, Iris (Watts), who unexpectedly inherits the dog of her late mentor Walter (played by Murray).

But the fan encounter isn’t the only recent controversy surrounding Murray. Just days earlier, he raised eyebrows during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen when he kissed Watts mid-interview—without warning.

During a lighthearted segment about on-screen kisses, Watts, now married to actor Billy Crudup, was about to answer when Murray abruptly grabbed her face and kissed her. Watts looked stunned, hiding her face in her hands and asking, “Did I go red?” before joking that Murray had lipstick on his face.

Despite the laughs in the studio, many viewers weren’t amused. One person called the moment “horrifying” and “disrespectful,” while others took to social media to criticize both Murray and the show’s host, Andy Cohen, for brushing it off.

“Bill Murray’s appearance on WWHL tonight was… something,” one viewer posted on X, while another wrote, “How gross and horrifying. Andy saying ‘yes’ and ‘so good,’ ugh, just awful.”

Watts later clarified that her favorite kiss was with her real-life partner, Crudup — not her co-star.

Between the fan outburst and the controversial on-air kiss, it’s clear Murray is back in headlines for all the wrong reasons. While his new film The Friend is earning buzz for its emotional depth, the actor’s recent behavior may be distracting from his work.

With fans divided and reactions pouring in, one question remains: Is Bill Murray simply being Bill Murray—or has the line been crossed?
