Donald Trump’s health has been a topic of interest and concern ever since he first took office at the White House. Throughout his presidency, he has frequently pointed to Joe Biden’s health as a reason for Biden not to hold the presidential office, but now it’s Trump’s own health that is drawing attention. The question being asked is whether Trump is wearing a catheter.

Since returning to office, President Trump has had a lot on his plate. From various controversies, such as the trade war with China, the dispute with Denmark over Greenland, to deploying the National Guard and Marines to address protests sparked by his stringent immigration raids in Los Angeles, Trump has garnered numerous headlines. Amidst these significant stories, his personal health and fitness to lead the country have also become a topic of discussion.
In the presidential race against Kamala Harris, Harris had openly shared her medical records, but Trump chose not to do so. Nevertheless, he continues to assert that he is in excellent physical and mental health.
As Trump begins a second term, he is noted as the oldest person to do so in the history of U.S. presidents. In April, the White House physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, released a report that stated Trump is fully capable of fulfilling his role as Commander-in-Chief.
The report revealed Trump’s height and weight as 75 inches and 224 pounds, respectively, with normal scans of his eyes, ears, neck, throat, and heart. Dr. Barbabella also noted that Trump had a colonoscopy in 2024, identifying a benign polyp and diverticulitis – inflammation in colonic pockets. A follow-up procedure has been recommended in three years.
Assessing Donald Trump’s Health
Trump’s medical report disclosed that he is on several medications, including those for cholesterol management, cardiac health, and a cream for a skin condition. Furthermore, Dr. Barbabella remarked on Trump’s past cataract surgery on both eyes, affirming that his cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical functions are robust, attributing his active lifestyle as beneficial to his health.
“President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief,” Barbabella asserted in April.
Trump, following his exam, stated to reporters: “I took a cognitive test. And I don’t know what to tell you, other than I got every answer right. I took numerous tests regarding my heart and other areas.”
Some have questioned the authenticity of Trump’s recent medical evaluation, and a new image of him stirred concerns among social media users about his health. On June 9, during an appearance at an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event, an image of Trump went viral online, fueling speculation about whether he wore a catheter under his suit.
Social Media Speculation on Trump’s Catheter Use
The picture in question depicts UFC fighter Kayla Harrison wrapping a championship belt around Trump’s waist.
One post online speculated, “Trump appears to be wearing leg braces and possibly a catheter. The apparent weakness on his right side has been noticeable for a number of years. Bruising on his right hand could be a result of infusion therapy, common with Parkinson’s-like diseases.”
Another commenter claimed, “Trump is absolutely wearing a Foley catheter. It’s a tube that drains urine from the bladder to a bag strapped to the leg. The line down his pants? Not a crease. It’s tubing. Every step he takes sounds like sloshing of a warm Capri Sun.”
The conversation quickly gained traction. However, some people defended Trump, asserting it was not a catheter at all.
“No, it isn’t. That pant leg is closely fitting, and that perfectly straight line is indeed a crease. Foley catheters are used post-procedure, not typically in these cases. People who can walk usually manage with self-catheterization or male pads,” read one counter-post.
So, what exactly is a Foley catheter? According to the Cleveland Clinic, it is “a medical device used to drain urine from the bladder, particularly for individuals who have difficulty or cannot urinate. It can also be necessary as the body heals post-surgery.”
White House Denies Catheter Claims
Fact-checking website Snopes investigated the claim regarding Trump. Was a catheter actually involved? White House spokesperson Steven Cheung dismissed it as false.
“The President has been transparent throughout his presidency. The recent medical report clearly demonstrates he is in peak health,” Cheung communicated to Snopes via email.
Cheung further criticized the speculation: “These conspiracy theories come from unstable individuals hiding behind social media, now amplified by fake news. These are the same people who falsely claimed Joe Biden was cognitively well, when in reality, he was in much poorer condition than admitted.”
