While Memorial Day traditionally stands as a day for Americans to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives in service, Donald Trump chose a notably different path – he used this reflective day to air his personal grievances.

Stirring Up Controversy
Former President Donald Trump has sparked a wave of criticism over the way he commemorated Memorial Day. Rather than a message of unity or gratitude, his social media posts on the occasion were marked by an aggressive rant in all caps.
In his post, Trump directed sharp words at the current administration, using harsh terms like “scum,” squarely blaming former President Joe Biden, and expressing strong displeasure with judges whose rulings have not favored his policies.
Trump’s commentary during the national observance mirrored the confrontational tone he used during Easter, commencing with an assault on perceived injustices rather than an expression of solidarity or remembrance.
Here’s what Trump posted on Truth Social this Memorial Day:

“Happy Memorial Day to all, including the scum that spent the last four years trying to destroy our country through warped radical left minds who allowed 21 million people to illegally enter our country, many of them being criminals and the mentally insane, through an open border that only an incompetent president would approve, and through judges who are on a mission to keep murderers, drug dealers, rapists, gang members, and released prisoners from all over the world on our country so they can rob, murder and rape again.”
Remembering at Arlington

On Monday morning, Donald Trump was present at the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, accompanied by Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. During this revered national ceremony, all three addressed those gathered in remembrance of the nation’s fallen.
Reflecting upon the enduring legacy of the nation’s military forces, Trump remarked, “Their valor gave us the freest, greatest and most noble Republic ever to exist on the face of the earth; a Republic that I am fixing after a long and hard four years.”
“A Disturbed Mind”

The president then pivoted towards longstanding campaign themes, railing against the situation at the border and the issue of immigration: “Who would let that happen? People pouring through our borders unchecked; people who are doing things that are indescribable and not for today to discuss.”
Trump also touched on his interaction with Harvard University, proclaimed assertively that he holds “everything” needed in his second term, and peppered his discussion with inflammatory remarks about President Biden, likening him to a “decrepit corpse.”

Many took to social media to voice their disapproval of the former president’s choice of words and the timing of his comments. The online community swiftly shared their reactions and perspectives during what was, for many, a solemn occasion of remembrance.
