Exciting Plans for Americaโs 250th Anniversary: A Special Coin Featuring Donald Trump

Imagine celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence in style! Set for July 4, 2026, the festivities promise to be grand. Among the ways this momentous occasion might be marked is through a unique $1 coin featuring none other than former President Donald Trump.
Last year, the U.S. Treasury put forth a design to pay tribute to Trump with this special edition coin. The originally proposed design had Trump’s profile on one side and an image on the reverse that stirred quite a debate. It showed Trump boldly raising his fist in front of an American flag alongside the words “Fight, Fight, Fight.” This scene brought to mind a memorable photo from a July 2024 campaign rally in Pennsylvania where Trump heroically survived an assassination attempt.
Treasury Revises the Designs After Public Feedback

Listening to public sentiment, the Treasury decided to offer new designs for consideration. Three alternative versions were presented to the Commission of Fine Arts. These designs feature more conventional imagery that many might find appealing.
The updates focus on close-up portraits of Trump, accompanied by classic phrases such as “In God We Trust” and “Liberty.” The reverse side of the coin highlights variations of the majestic bald eagle, tying into the celebration of America’s semiquincentennial year in an inspiring way.
However, the proposal has met with resistance. Democratic Senators Jeff Merkley and Catherine Cortez Masto are leading an effort to stop the production of this coin. They have raised concerns about the appropriateness of such a tribute.
Senator Merkley has voiced his opinion that the idea is over-glorifying one individual. Meanwhile, Senator Cortez Masto has pointed out that placing living presidents on currency deviates from American traditions, raising questions about how it aligns with the nationโs democratic principles.
The ultimate decision about whether this coin will be minted lies with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. His choice will reflect the direction the country takes in celebrating its historic milestone with both pride and integrity.
