Donald Trump is facing criticism after appearing to forget his promise of $2,000 checks for Americans. Over recent months, he has advocated for this idea, suggesting that revenue from his trade tariffs could fund these payments, which were expected to reach citizens by mid-2026.

During a recent interview, confusion reigned as Trump was pressed on the $2,000 check promise.
Trump argued that the prosperous returns from his tariffs could cover $2,000 per American. However, skepticism has grown over whether these payments will materialize. The New York Times reporters Katie Rogers and Tyler Pager recently interviewed Trump in the Oval Office, pressing him on this issue.
Katie Rogers asked: โYouโve promised $2,000 checks based on your tariff revenues. When can they expect them?โ In response, Trump appeared confused and replied with: โI did do that? When did I do that?โ

This moment of doubt prompted further questioning.
Pager continued: โWhen will Americans receive those checks?โ Trump assured: โWell, I am going to. The tariff money is so substantial. Thatโs coming in, so Iโll be able to do $2,000 sometime towards the end of the year.โ He expressed confidence that Congressional approval isnโt necessary, claiming, โWe have it coming in from other sources.โ
Trump initially announced his checks in November through a statement on social media, highlighting his tariffs.
On social media, Trump expressed confidence in his plans.
He stated: โPeople against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country with Almost No Inflation and a Record Stock Market. 401kโs are at their Highest EVER.โ
Trump boasted about expected financial benefits and national gains.
โWe are taking in Trillions and will soon pay down our ENORMOUS DEBT.โ Then, he mentioned the possibility of distributing a $2,000 dividend, excluding high-income individuals.
His recent forgetfulness has stirred discontent on social media.
One user criticized: โYou were never getting $2000 checks, just like you werenโt getting $5000 DOGE checks. But Trumpโs wealth doubled. Youโve been conned.โ
Another echoed: โTrump forgets his $2000 tariff promise and then says theyโre coming anyway. Even he canโt keep track.โ
A third user added: โAgain, he makes grand promises, followers believe, then he denies or โforgetsโ he ever made them.โ
