King Charles has been on a journey of recovery from his cancer diagnosis, which occurred nearly 11 months ago. While he made a return to the public eye at the end of April, his appearances have been less frequent. There’s been no substantial updates from the Palace regarding his health; however, reports that King Charles temporarily paused his treatment for a visit to Australia and Samoa in October suggests he is improving.
Throughout the last year, Camilla and Prince William have often represented King Charles. Last week, Prince William took a trip to Paris for the reopening ceremony of Notre Dame Cathedral, which had undergone five years of renovation following a disastrous fire.
During this event, Prince William encountered numerous world leaders, including the soon-to-be reinstated Donald Trump. President Trump and the royal family have interacted several times, and both he and William discussed King Charles’ health during the recent meeting in Paris.
As the year draws to a close, the Royal Family, like many others, looks forward to a restful Christmas. Their tradition includes a holiday at Sandringham along with a family gathering and a public appearance at the Christmas Day morning service at Sandringham Church.
King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to participate in the Christmas celebrations. Although other royal duties remain, the public is eager for more updates on Charles’ health. Presently, Camilla is recuperating from a chest infection.
The Palace prefers to keep matters discreet to safeguard both their health ahead of Christmas, per a source from the Daily Beast. Just a few weeks ago, Camilla faced a bout of pneumonia and continues her recovery quietly.
Despite his ongoing cancer treatment, King Charles remains committed to fulfilling his royal duties. However, royal expert Duncan Larcome told GB News this could risk his health.
“He’s been pushing himself to do as much as he can physically manage,” Larcome said. “Doctors might feel he hasn’t rested sufficiently.”
Occasionally, due to his treatment, King Charles has had to withdraw from certain royal commitments, allowing Prince William and Camilla to step in on his behalf.
Donald Trump Shares Perception on King Charles’ Health
Disease battles have required the King to assign some responsibilities to Prince William, such as attending the 80th D-Day anniversary and now the Notre Dame reopening in Paris.
Donald Trump was also present in Paris and shared cordial exchanges with Prince William. The conversation included personal topics like King Charles’ health.
Talking to the NY Post, Trump, who will begin his new term in January, spoke of his chat with Prince William, touching upon both Charles and Kate Middleton’s health challenges.
“We conversed deeply,” Trump stated. “The Prince mentioned his wife is recovering well, and his father is fighting hard, which was touching. They’ve got my admiration and support.”
Neither the Palace nor King Charles has commented on Trump’s updates on the King’s health. King Charles had previously met with Trump during a presidential state visit to the UK in 2019, where they got along well.
In her memoir, Melania Trump shed light on these meetings, depicting warm hospitality and ongoing contact through letters with Charles and Camilla.
Melania expressed, “During our visit, we hosted a private dinner in honor of Charles and Camilla, representing our strong international ties.”
“As our friendship blossomed, Her Majesty was invited to visit the US, but regretfully passed before it could occur. Our exchanges with King Charles remain strong through letters.”
The Role of Prince William
With Prince William increasingly active, it signals both gratitude and complexity for King Charles. Royal expert and historian Tessa Dunlop suggests King Charles may view these developments as a potent reminder of his son’s growing prominence.
Dr. Dunlop shared with the Mirror, “With Prince William standing alongside America’s assertive president-elect Trump in Paris, the spectacle underscored his future role. William’s poise and kingly persona shone brightly, commanding respect from those present.”
“William exudes a confidence that parallels his royal journey, impressing even Trump with his regal charm.”
Dunlop continued, “William’s abilities underline his mother’s charisma and reflect the late Queen’s astute guidance. Trump’s admiration was evident, marking William’s triumph.”
Yet for King Charles, contemplating these shifts can be bittersweet. Dr. Dunlop concluded that the King’s battle with cancer and his son’s rising public roles pose bittersweet realizations.
“King Charles, after decades of waiting, now witnesses his son’s rise. However, despite his health halt and eventual recovery, William’s Paris appearance adds to the narrative of changing times.”
As we usher in another year, let’s send positive thoughts to King Charles on his path to recovery!
