Donald Trump’s 5-Word Comment About Melania at State of the Union Has Everyone Talking

During President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address of his second term, he had plenty to say. From addressing Democrats and veterans to promising great things for America, the speech had everyone’s attention. However, it was a light-hearted jest about his wife, Melania, that caught people off guard.

Opinions on Trump’s address are deeply divided, depending on who you ask. For some, it was a resounding success, while for others, it missed the mark. Nevertheless, it was noteworthy for its length, clocking in at nearly an hour and 48 minutes, making it one of the longest in recent memory.

In his address, President Trump spoke extensively about America’s future and his thoughts on Democrats. He proudly proclaimed economic achievements as part of a “turnaround for the ages.” Amidst the political discourse, he paused to speak warmly about First Lady Melania Trump, highlighting her achievements and popularity.

Trump’s Light-Hearted Comment About Melania

The President took a moment to praise Melania for her work over the past year, including initiatives in foster care and artificial intelligence. He even mentioned her new Amazon documentary, making a playful comment about her rising popularity.

“Nobody cares more about protecting America’s youth than our First Lady,” Trump said with a smile. “She’s now a movie star, can you believe it? Who wouldโ€™ve thought? Sheโ€™s had a remarkable impact with AI legislation, a significant executive order on foster care, and $30 million to start the Melania Trump Foster Youth initiative. Itโ€™s truly remarkable.”

As the audience listened, he light-heartedly added a comment that became a talking point:

“Itโ€™s amazing what sheโ€™s done and she seems to have a lot of bipartisan support. She gets much more than I do. I get none, she gets a lot. One day, youโ€™ll have to tell me how you did it!”

The Support for Melania Trump

This comment suggested that Melania has strong backing from both sides of the political spectrum, a quality that Trump himself jokingly acknowledged he lacks. Many found it to be more of a tender ribbing than a real critique.

Despite Trump’s playful remarks, Melania isn’t enjoying overwhelming popularity among voters right now. According to a recent YouGov survey, her approval rating stands negatively compared to past first ladies.

The same survey shows Melania with a -16 approval rating, trailing behind former First Lady Jill Biden, who is at -9. Yet, she fares better than Hilary Clinton, who has a -17 rating.

Several former First Ladies have much higher approval ratings. Nancy Reagan has +25, Lady Bird Johnson boasts +23, Rosalynn Carter has +32, and Barbara Bush got +21. Michelle Obama and Laura Bush also have strong ratings at +21 and +19, respectively.
