After stepping away from the Today show in December 2024, Sheinelle Jones has remained absent from her usual anchor chair.
While Jones hasn’t gone into detail about the reason behind her absence, previous statements have revealed that she stepped away from the daily morning news show during to a “family health matter.”
“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” Jones shared on Instagram in January.
“I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter. It’s not lost on [me] how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today Show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”
While she hasn’t addressed her fans publicly since, her co-workers have since revealed that they remain in close contact with Jones.
“She’s doing all right,” Dylan Dreyer exclusively told E! News while attending the 2025 Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 3. “She’s hanging in there. We’re praying for her and her family. You know, she’s just going through a tough time with her family.”
“We talk to her every day,” Dreyer continued. “One of us on the team talks to her every single day, and we’re there to support her, and we’ll welcome her back with open arms the second she can get back to us.”
In April, Craig Melvin told Access Hollywood, according to NBC News, that he “just talked to her a couple days ago — she’s taking some time to be with her family and we talk to her all the time. We love our girl. It’s been nice to see how much everyone loves her, too.”
“Exactly,” Al Roker also added, at the time. “We’re just praying for her.”
