Elon Musk, a notable figure in the tech industry, is under fire once again. This time, it’s over a joke he made during a meeting with former President Donald Trump that didn’t quite hit the mark. Musk recently became the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is an advisory group aimed at helping Trump manage federal spending more effectively.
Despite DOGE’s unofficial status, Musk’s involvement has become a topic of national debate. Some disagree with Musk’s role, which has led to a backlash from the public. Tesla, one of his ventures, has seen a decline in public support, with some even resorting to vandalizing showrooms.
A video from a significant cabinet meeting that reviewed Trump’s first 100 days in office captured public attention for an unexpected reason. Rather than focusing on the discussions, viewers couldn’t help but notice Musk’s bold fashion choice.
During his visit to the White House, Musk donned a striking accessory: two hats stacked upon each other. The situation provoked President Trump to comment on Musk’s unusual look, saying, “Elon, I love the double hat. You’re the only one who can pull that off.”
In a humorous attempt, Musk replied, “Well, Mr. President, they say I wear a lot of hats, and it’s true. Even my hat has a hat.” The attempt at humor, however, didn’t land well with the audience.
Social Media Backlash
The online world, particularly the social platform X, formerly known as Twitter, reacted quickly and harshly. Many users expressed their disdain over Musk’s awkward joke.
Comments ranged from, “Seriously unfunny but trying so hard,” to critiques of his appearance, “Never seen anyone look so awkward in a hat. Critics didn’t hold back as another added, “Elon is living proof that no amount of money will buy a personality.” Yet another comment highlighted public frustration: “F***ing clowns clowning around while the country burns.”
This isn’t Musk’s first controversial wardrobe choice at the White House. He has previously been seen wearing Trump-themed hats and shirts with slogans during official engagements, raising eyebrows and critique.
