Elton John, the iconic singer known for hits like “I’m Still Standing” and “Rocket Man,” experienced a minor accident at his villa in Nice, France. The 76-year-old artist was taken to the Princess Grace hospital’s orthopedic center in Monaco for precautionary measures. However, after a short stay and necessary check-ups, he was released and is now safely at home, in good health.
The incident was confirmed by John’s representative, who stated, “We can confirm that following a slip yesterday at his home in the South of France, Elton visited the local hospital as a precautionary measure.” They continued by noting that he was discharged the following morning after the checks.
During the summer, John has been residing on the picturesque French Riviera. He’s been spending quality time with his family, including his husband, David Furnish, and their two children. This stay comes after the completion of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which wrapped up in early July.
Reflecting on his illustrious career spanning over five decades, the singer expressed immense gratitude for the continued love and support from his fans. He stated, “I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief. 52 years of pure joy playing music, how lucky am I to play music?”
He acknowledged the significant role his fans played in his success, saying, “I wouldn’t be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn’t for you. You bought the singles, the albums, the CDs, the cassettes, but more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows and you know how I love to play live.”
During his farewell, the Grammy-winning artist emphasized how special the night was for him. “Tonight has been magical. I’m trying to process it, and I don’t think it will sink in for a while yet that I’m finally finished touring,” he expressed. He spoke fondly of his fans, noting how their unwavering support has been a humbling experience for him and that the memories “will stay with me forever.”
Though John has officially bid adieu to touring, that doesn’t mean his musical journey has reached its endpoint. He mentioned his consideration towards releasing new music in the future, albeit without the exhaustive tours that come with it. He elaborated on this by saying, “Touring is exhausting for me now, and it takes me away from my family and my children.”
In related news, earlier in the month, Elton John was seen in St. Tropez, mingling with several A-list celebrities. He was also photographed sharing a meal with Kevin Spacey, who was recently cleared in his sexual assault trial.
