Elvis Presley was well-known for more than his incredible musical career and distinct voice, which stunned audiences all over the world.
He also excelled in food and fashion (blue suede shoes, anyone?)
What some people may not realize is that the rock star was also a design genius. Consider the King of Rock’s famous personal plane as an example.
In 1962, Elvis Presley purchased his own jet and had it customized to his specifications.
The carpet, mahogany panels, and crimson velvet chairs alone give away the place’s opulence.
The Lockheed Jetstar model airplane Elvis had owned for nearly three decades went unused until his death in 1977. It was then placed on a road in Roswell, New Mexico, USA, as a tourist attraction.
But, the plane was recently auctioned off in Florida for $260,000 to a telephone bidder who claimed to be an Elvis fan.
When the plane first lifted above the clouds, Elvis and his father, Vernon Presley, were on board.
Even after more than three decades have gone since Elvis’ sad death, the plane remains in the same position in New Mexico. If you look attentively, you’ll notice that the plane’s exterior has a subdued red color. Despite this, the plane is in surprisingly good condition for its age.
Take a look inside… Let me put it this way: I wouldn’t mind a long flight on this plane. It’s exactly how I imagined the King of Rock’s style to be.
The walls are wood-paneled, and the seats are upholstered in sumptuous crimson velvet.
The seating appears to be of great quality, and there is plenty of room for guests. Beyond the main room is a little kitchen.
Take the microwave, for example. Given its age, I highly doubt it is still operational. Simultaneously, imagine Elvis getting out of his chair, walking into the kitchen, and spreading a famed Elvis sandwich, infamously made of peanut butter, mayonnaise, crispy bacon, and banana, before placing it into the microwave. Defy the Past!
Check out the restroom! Naturally, there should be more velvet and a finer sink. This is a breeze compared to the confined cabins on charter aircraft.
It’s not that bad, is it? Thank god I caught a peek of Elvis in his ideal holiday clothes.
As of now, the winning offer at auction for the plane is $260,000. The auction was held on January 8 at the Mecum Kissimmee Collector Car Auction in Florida.
On the phone, the new owner put bids anonymously.
