Father Learns 2 Teen Daughters Died From Tracking Their Phones

On August 1, 2024, sisters Hailey Trumble and Shelby Trumble went on an amusement park adventure in Rochester, New York, together. When they set out, nobody knew that they wouldn’t make it home.

Their father, Brian Trumble, told Syracuse.com that when his daughters didn’t return home, he sent them several texts on their phones. When they didn’t respond, he used the Find My Friends app to locate his daughters.

When he drove to their location, he discovered that police officers had already blocked off the roads due to a horrific car crash. Both of his daughters died due to injuries from the crash. Hailey was only 19 years old. Shelby was only 17 years old.

According to a media release from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 6:25pm in the town of Ira on Ira Hill Road near the intersection with Farnam Road.

The sheriff’s office reports that the sisters were driving a Chevy Cobalt heading east on Ira Hill Road “when the vehicle crested a hill and crossed into the opposite lane, striking a second vehicle. That vehicle, a West bound 2016 Jeep Cherokee, was occupied by Robin Latham, age 59 from Tully NY.”

Robin was taken to Syracuse University Hospital and is in stable condition.

The police currently do not know what caused the crash, but the “investigation is active and ongoing.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to help pay for funeral costs and medical bills. At the time of publication, the fundraiser has already raised $37,000, surpassing the original goal of $10,000.

Hannibal Central School District, the school district where the girls graduated from high school, released a statement following the crash. According to PEOPLE, the school district shared, “This is an incredibly sad day for our students, faculty, and colleagues, and a tremendous loss for the entire community.”

A funeral service is scheduled for August 10th.
