Former Miss World Contestant Dies At 26

In 2015, Sherika De Armas represented the country of Uruguay in the annual Miss World competition. Tragically, at the age of 26, De Armas has died.

While De Armas’s death may be shocking to most of the world, it was actually the end to a very long battle. She had been fighting cervical cancer for the past two years.

Now, her family and friends are paying tribute to her on social media. Her brother, Mayk’ De Armas, wrote, “Fly high, little sister. Always and forever.”

Meanwhile, one of her best friends, Anto Ciavaglia, wrote, “I remember you with that beautiful glow.”

Upon hearing the news of De Armas’ death, the current Miss Uruguay also shared a tribute that she was “one of the most beautiful women I have ever met in my life.”

While De Armas didn’t win the title of Miss World back in 2015, she did stand out as one of the youngest contestants. She was one of only six contestants who were just 18 years old. The press considered her “one of the young promising talents of Uruguay.”

It was De Armas’s dream to become a model. She told Univision, “I always wanted to be a model, whether a beauty model, an advertising model or a catwalk model.”

Her reason for wanting to be a model had to do with her love of fashion. She explained, “I like everything related to fashion.”

De Armas was very excited to be part of Miss Universe. She shared, “I think that within a beauty pageant, any girl’s dream is to have the opportunity to participate in Miss Universe. I am very happy to be able to live this experience full of challenges.”

Besides beauty pageants and modeling, De Armas also sold beauty products including hair products and makeup through Shey De Armas Beauty Studio. In addition, she volunteered at Pérez Scremini Foundation, a childhood cancer organization.
