A former Princeton football standout tragically lost his life in a deadly truck attack on Bourbon Street as New Orleans celebrated the arrival of 2025 in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Tiger Bech, a 27-year-old All-Ivy League kick returner who played for Princeton from 2016 to 2018, was among at least 10 people killed in the horrific incident, according to multiple reports and a heartfelt post from his younger brother, Jack.
“Love you always brother! You inspired me everyday now you get to be with me in every moment. I got this family T, don’t worry. This is for us,” Jack, a football player at TCU wrote on X.
Bech was fatally struck by a truck allegedly driven by 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, the identified suspect. According to Kim Broussard, the athletic director at St. Thomas More Catholic High School, where Bech attended, he suffered severe internal bleeding. Bech was transported to a New Orleans hospital and placed on life support until his family could arrive, as reported by NOLA.com.
A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Bech had been working as a stockbroker in New York after earning a finance degree from Princeton in 2021. According to ESPN, he was visiting New Orleans for the holidays at the time of the incident. During his three seasons with the Princeton Tigers, Bech tallied 53 receptions for 825 yards and three touchdowns.
The driver of the pickup truck, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was fatally shot during a confrontation with responding officers at the scene. The FBI is now searching for any potential accomplices involved in the incident. In light of the attack, the Sugar Bowl, originally scheduled for January 1 at the Caesars Superdome, has been postponed.
Rest in Peace.
