Chris Pine set the internet abuzz with his “Poolman” premiere outfit. Many questioned his fashion sense, which he addressed in an interview. Interestingly, his outfit was the same as Chris wore during a scene in the film.
Chris Pine, known for his leading roles and dashing looks, took a bold style turn at the Los Angeles premiere of “Poolman.” The event marked his directorial debut in Hollywood.
During the premiere, Chris sported an ensemble that deviated significantly from the typical Hollywood red-carpet attire. He wore an “I [heart] LA” shirt paired with gray denim shorts and a tan blazer.
Rounding off the look, he sported laced shoes, high socks, orange reflective shades, and a pink floral brooch. Chris also showcased shoulder-length hair and a thick beard.
Chris’ unusual style choice quickly became a hot topic among fans and onlookers, sparking a flurry of comments on social media. Reactions ranged from surprise to admiration. In addition, many pointed out his drastic transformation.
One user exclaimed, “How can he look like a grandfather at 43?” Another commented in a similar vein, “43 going on 75. I’ve never seen someone age at such a rapid speed.”
Further emphasizing the shock, a comment read, “Chris Pine in his L.A. homeless era,” while another added, ” He is so handsome, but OMG what is that awful homeless outfit and beard?”
Despite some critical views, many fans expressed support and affection for Chris’ new look.
“OMG, what’s going on? Is he intentionally trying to look as ugly as possible? Oh my,” questioned one.
Another defended, “Chris Pine is the only person who could pull this look off!” Expressions of encouragement also surfaced, with fans remarking, “Good for him living his life!” and “Love that he’s being himself!!”
A comment
highlighted, “He is embracing his late-middle age with the enthusiasm of somebody half his age.” Another fan simply noted, “I think he is adorable.” Interestingly, the outfit was the same that appeared in the “Poolman” trailer.
Chris’ appearance at the “Poolman” premiere marked a significant moment in his career and demonstrated his willingness to defy conventional fashion norms and embrace a more personal style. This bold fashion choice has certainly kept people talking, proving that Chris can still capture the public’s attention, albeit differently.
Chris is well aware of his new rugged, laid-back style. He acknowledged the dramatic change in his appearance and explained the inspiration behind it. “I think there comes a certain wonderful point in your life where you don’t give as much of a FU anymore, and I think I probably hit that point,” Chris shared.
His new look is not just a personal style choice, but a deeper reflection of his current life philosophy and creative expression. Chris elaborated on how this mindset influenced his work on “Poolman.”
He stated, “This whole film, what I love about what we did is it’s the joy of everything, of design, of clothes, of cinema, of film, of shooting on film, of characters and weird characters. So, I tried to throw all the joy I could into it.”
Discussing his fashion influences, Chris cited several style icons that have inspired his recent sartorial choices, including Lapo Elkann. Specifically, the actor liked the flamboyant Italian businessman’s daring fashion sense.
But recently, Chris’ inspirations have shifted more towards the past, specifically the early ’80s. He likes Harrison Ford’s style. He has an eye for penny loafers with Levi’s jeans and a blazer. This nostalgic vibe directly inspired his choice of outfit for the “Poolman” premiere. Specifically, his short shorts drew inspiration from fellow actor Tom Selleck.
Despite Chris’ relaxed and unconventional appearance at the “Poolman” premiere, his prowess as a director is unmistakable. His directorial debut showcased his talent and earned him admiration from fans and a very special audience member—his father, Robert Pine.
A seasoned actor himself, the older Pine was filled with pride as he watched his son at the premiere. Chris made quite the entrance, pulling up in a hippie-esque blue van, hanging out the door, and waving enthusiastically to the crowd.
His dad was in awe of his son’s creativity and spontaneity. “That’s what I love about him. He’s unique, he’s inventive. He’s creating right there,” Robert said.
Robert shared more about what he admired in Chris’ approach to acting and directing. Despite being an established actor, known for roles in “CHiPs” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Robert confessed some envy towards his son’s ability.
“He memorizes dialogue. I’m ADD, and it takes me a long time to do it,” he explained. Chris’ ability to go off script and then seamlessly return when he captures something genuine is something Robert wishes he could emulate. Robert even has a special connection to “Poolman,” making a surprise cameo. Although not on screen, his voice can be heard.

Chris, on his part, opened up about his experience stepping behind the camera. He shared that he wrote about what he knew best. In particular, the city of Los Angeles, where he grew up. The
film integrates memories of his life in L.A., including nods to a studio that was torn down and replaced with lofts. It was a change he viewed with a hint of nostalgia and critique.
However, transitioning from acting to directing presented its challenges. Chris humorously admitted that on his first day as director, he forgot to call “Action.” It was a moment of learning and adjustment. He even had to be reminded by his first assistant director to do so.
