Hollywood veteran actor, dead at 89

Hollywood veteran actor Robert Blake, best known for his iconic roles in the TV series “Baretta” and the movie “In Cold Blood,” has passed away at the age of 89.

According to his family, Blake died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on March 8th, 2023. His death was confirmed by his manager, who issued a statement on behalf of the family.

Born on September 18, 1933, in Nutley, New Jersey, Blake started his acting career in the early 1940s as a child actor. He worked on numerous TV shows and films throughout the years, including memorable performances in “The Little Rascals,” “Our Gang,” and “Porky’s.”

However, it was his role as the street-smart detective Tony Baretta in the TV series “Baretta” that brought him national recognition and fame. The show, which aired from 1975 to 1978, earned Blake an Emmy Award for his portrayal of the character.

In 1967, Blake also starred in the critically acclaimed movie “In Cold Blood,” based on the Truman Capote novel of the same name. The film earned four Academy Award nominations and cemented Blake’s status as a versatile and talented actor.

Despite his success, Blake’s personal life was marked by controversy and tragedy. In 2005, he was acquitted of the murder of his wife, Bonnie Lee Bakley, but was found liable in a wrongful death civil suit brought by Bakley’s family.

Blake’s later years were marked by health issues, including a bout with cancer and a stroke in 2003 that left him partially paralyzed.
