Fans of “Duck Dynasty” are well aware of the challenges that Jase Robertson and his wife Missy have faced as a result of the persistent medical issues that their daughter Mia, who was born with a cleft lip and palate, has had to deal with from birth. However, the couple has decided to reveal what they went through when they were expecting their second kid only now.
When Missy Robertson found out she was having another child in 2002, the Robertsons already had two sons, Reed and Cole, who they raised as their own. But the negative news came very quickly after the good news.
During an interview with Closer magazine, Missy stated that she had a miscarriage when she was between eight and ten weeks pregnant. This gave her “just enough time” to become thrilled about the pregnancy and begin telling others about it.
Tubal pregnancy is a term that refers to the situation in which the embryo implants in the fallopian tube rather than the uterus, as was the case with Missy.
“I’d heard of tubal pregnancies for years, but I didn’t really understand the mental anguish of actually having to go in and have someone remove what could’ve been your child,” she explained. “I didn’t really understand the mental anguish of actually having to go in and have someone remove what could’ve been your child.” “It was an incredibly challenging task.”
The couple did not have to wait very long to have something to rejoice about following the tragedy; Missy soon discovered that she was expecting another child, this time a girl named Mia. However, because of the nature of Mia’s congenital anomaly, their excitement was somewhat muted at first.
“When Mia walked out, I looked at her and thought, ‘This is going to be difficult,’” Jase admitted to Closer about his thoughts when Mia first appeared. But in the end, taking into account his concerns for her health in the long run, he made a 180-degree turn in his thinking.
I found myself asking, “Why am I getting so worked up about how she’s going to look?” He explained, “I just wanted her to be alive.”
And it goes without saying that she did. In point of fact, viewers saw 11-year-old Mia face her fifth operation to manage her disease during the season five finale of “Duck Dynasty.” She did so with a courageous attitude with her family surrounding her at the time.
Mia expressed her belief that God is greater than her challenges and sadness by saying, “Whenever I feel sad or have struggles, I know that God is bigger than all that.”
Her father assured Closer that so long as they were both alive, they could prevail over any obstacle.
