A wave of heated reactions has emerged following a tweet by Vice President JD Vance about a tragic incident involving Alex Pretti and an ICE agent. Many online have expressed outrage, calling Vance a “sick f**k” due to his choice of commentary.

The unfortunate event unfolded near Nicolett Avenue in Minneapolis, when 37-year-old Alex Pretti was fatally shot by an ICE agent during an enforcement operation. Footage from the scene captured Pretti filming the agents before being confronted with pepper spray, tackled, and then shot. While authorities assert that Pretti was armed, there is yet to be public evidence confirming this claim.
As the dust settled, several former Trump administration members leapt to defend the ICE agent’s actions. For instance, White House senior adviser Stephen Miller depicted Pretti as an “assassin,” echoing a sentiment held by others who termed him a “domestic terrorist.” JD Vance, however, has faced significant backlash for his comments on the matter.

Instead of directly addressing Pretti’s death, Vance’s tweet recounted an occurrence from his time in Minneapolis. He relayed a story where federal agents’ identities were exposed at a local restaurant, drawing an aggressive crowd.
JD Vance’s Controversial Minneapolis Anecdote
Vance criticized local authorities, blaming them for inciting “chaos” by failing to assist with immigration enforcement, which he linked to the city’s broader issues with violence.
“During my Minneapolis visit, I heard various wild accounts. Among the most troubling: some off-duty ICE and CBP officers were identified at a Minneapolis eatery, leading to a hostile gathering,” Vance recounted. “Trapped in the restaurant, the officers received no assistance from local police, who, as directed by local authorities, refused to help. Thankfully, fellow federal agents eventually arrived to support them. This scenario epitomizes the broader issues in Minneapolis, spurred by state and local leadership’s non-cooperation with immigration laws.”

Vance continued, “These leaders manufacture chaos, seizing opportunities for political grandstanding whenever tragedies like these occur, to denounce border enforcement. The remedy is clear; I urge Minneapolis leadership to enact reasonable measures.”
Backlash Against Vance’s Statement
JD Vance’s remarks elicited a fierce response. Many citizens, dismayed by his perceived insensitivity, took to social media to express their indignation.
One commenter remarked on the attention given to the federal agents’ dining experience over a “nurse being executed,” calling Vance’s priorities into question.
Critiques continued with messages such as, “You’re meant to serve all Americansโnot just Republicans. Your behavior is appalling,” and “Stop fabricating stories, you reprehensible liar.”
Even Congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez weighed in, lambasting Vance for “defending the open killing of everyday Americans exercising their Constitutional rights.”
These heated discussions underscore the complex feelings surrounding the handling of immigration enforcement and law enforcement actions, especially regarding public safety and individual rights.
