Jennifer Grey’s tears of grief

Traumatic memories In her memoir, Out of the Corner: A Memoir, Jennifer Grey is open and honest about the specifics of her relationship with Matthew Broderick, including the tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two people.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, May 5, the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star, 62, said, “The automobile accident in Ireland was, I would say, top three traumas of my life, maybe top one.”

“When you have a near-death experience and witness other people’s deaths, it’s really difficult to convey. It was quite unnerving to be all by myself on a rural road in the middle of nowhere with no one else nearby or conscious. It sparked a lot of other developments in my life.

The actress said, “Matthew had survived, but he was comatose, had amnesia, and was extremely badly hurt. I was the only living witness.” “I believed he was deceased. At the time, I was not even aware of the awful deaths of two additional women. You just don’t recover from something like that the same way.

The Friends alum told ET that no information was suppressed concerning the collision, and The Producers actor wasn’t at fault even if Broderick was driving at the time.

Since they were looking for an explanation and there wasn’t one because it was an accident, she added, “I wasn’t holding any knowledge that others seem to think I did.” And nobody was drinking, and [Broderick] was a wonderful driver. It was merely a coincidence. It was horrible, and I still worry about the Irish family.

The two met while working on the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off set. Before getting engaged, the former couple kept their relationship a secret while the 1986 movie was being made. Before breaking up in 1988, the two had been dating for 12 years. (With Sarah Jessica Parker, whom he wed in 1997), Broderick moved on.

After she and the Daybreak actor called it quits, the New Yorker was sent up on a blind date with Johnny Depp, who she described in her 2022 biography as “ridiculously handsome” but “extremely jealous and paranoid.”

She wrote, “He’d started missing his flights home to LA because he’d overslept or when he did arrive home, he’d be extremely jealous and worried about what I’d been doing while he was away.” I explained his bad mood and dissatisfaction by saying that he felt miserable and helpless to leave the television show 21 Jump Street.

Just before her 29th birthday, the Red Dawn actress called it quits with Depp, 58, after he left for a meeting and began what she called a “self-imposed streak of impetuous, destructive decision-making.”

The Sweeney Todd actor moved on from Grey to Winona Ryder, who just so happened to be Grey’s neighbor at the time. He is currently involved in a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The Dirty Dancing actor remarked, “It was the usual nightmare of feeling replaced, like you never existed, but on steroids.”
