John Goodman Reveals Impressive 200lb Weight Loss

John Goodman has embarked on a remarkable journey towards better health over the past two decades. Known for his roles in classic movies like The Big Lebowski and the TV staple Roseanne, Goodman reached a turning point in 2007 when he chose sobriety, ultimately leading to an astonishing 200-pound weight loss.

Recently, at the premiere of a new Smurf movie, Goodman displayed his newly transformed, more youthful appearance. However, some fans on social media expressed worries for his well-being instead of solely applauding his weight loss.

Balancing his career and personal challenges, Goodman has battled weight issues throughout his life. His highest known weight tipped the scales at nearly 400 pounds.

Back in 2011, he shared with David Letterman, โ€œEvery spring, after leaving Roseanne, Iโ€™d shed 60 pounds. But each year, Iโ€™d gain it back and then some. Itโ€™s something Iโ€™ll face for the rest of my life.โ€

After addressing his drinking in 2007, Goodman decided it was time for a new chapter. He enlisted the help of fitness expert Mackie Shilstone, noted for coaching tennis icon Serena Williams.

Guided by Shilstone, Goodman embraced a Mediterranean-inspired diet, loaded with fish, nuts, olive oil, fruits, and vegetables, while committing to five to six workout sessions weekly.

A Triumph in Transformation

By the year 2010, thanks to his disciplined approach to nutrition and fitness, Goodman had already shed over 100 pounds.

As Shilstone explained to the New York Post, โ€œThis was never an overnight change โ€” itโ€™s been a continuous effort. John wanted this transformation more than ever.โ€

By 2016, Goodman expressed to ABC, โ€œThe mindless eating had to stop. It was like an addiction. In the past, Iโ€™d lose weight only to sabotage my efforts as a reward.โ€

He continued, โ€œIโ€™ve reached an age where I canโ€™t ignore my health. I grew tired of my reflection. It became alarming.โ€

Staying true to his commitment to health, by 2023, Goodman had lost a total of 200 pounds. Revealing his newfound love for boxing, he told Rolling Stone Magazine how he enjoys the physicality and skill, โ€œItโ€™s typically an hour or so of hitting mitts and bags, and honing my footwork. Itโ€™s fantastic.โ€

Facing Challenges and Overcoming Obstacles

Despite his accomplishment, Goodman has remained a fixture in Hollywood. At 73, he continues to balance roles on screen and lending his voice to animated films.

But earlier this year, an unexpected set accident led to a hospital visit. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Goodman recounted a hip injury that raised concerns among his fans.

He described how the accident happened during a particularly demanding scene, leading to a hip fracture that required immediate surgery. โ€œThere was a brilliant doctor on set,โ€ Goodman said, โ€œand he ensured I got to the Cleveland Clinic in London. They operated the next morning, which thankfully set things right.โ€

Concerns and Commendations from Fans

Despite the setback, Goodman bounced back, delighting audiences with his voice work in the new Smurfs film. At its Los Angeles premiere, his new, leaner appearance drew mixed reactions on social media.

Some fans expressed concerns, noting a seemingly drastic change. Comments like โ€œHe looks terribly gauntโ€ and observations about the effects of weight loss on middle-aged skin appearance were shared.

Amidst speculations about weight-loss medication use like Ozempic, many applauded Goodman. One user exclaimed, โ€œRemarkable achievement!โ€ while another noted, โ€œHeโ€™s transformed his health โ€” 200 pounds is no easy feat.โ€

With his transformed physique, Jeff’s supporters offered congratulatory messages, lauding his incredible determination and commitment.
