Katie Holmes blasts tabloid for spreading ‘dangerous’ rumors about her 18-year-old daughter

Katie Holmes has had enough of all the rumors and misinformation about her daughter.

The 45-year-old “Dawson’s Creek” alum, who shares 18-year-old daughter Suri Cruise with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise, took to Instagram on Dec. 8 to set the record straight.

“Completely false,” she wrote in a text overlay over a screenshot of an article about her daughter.

“Daily Mail you can stop making stuff up,” she continued, referring to the British tabloid newspaper.

The post comes a few days after Daily Mail published an article claiming that Tom Cruise’s trust fund for Suri Cruise has “kicked in,” making the 18-year-old a sudden millionaire.

“Enough,” Holmes bluntly wrote in the caption.

In the Dec. 5 article, an unidentified source claims that the trust fund was “part of a divorce deal” and that Suri Cruise was “allowed to access it when she turned 18 in April.”

The fund was allegedly “carefully constructed so that she does not get all the money” at once, with the rest of the money being made available when Suri Cruise turns 30.

The source also added that Holmes, who they described as “fiscally minded,” has set up her own trust fund for Suri Cruise, which has yet to kick in.

Suri Cruise turned 18 on April 18, but her mother is disputing the claims in the Daily Mail article.

Holmes defends herself in the comment section

The “Batman Begins” actress went on to defend herself in the comment section when a user called her out for ignoring the “big picture.”

“A story in a rag media outlet, when there are moms in parts of this world who hope their daughters just survive the day,” the user commented, adding that they “wish these were my problems.”

Holmes replied to the comment and didn’t disagree with the user, but rather offered a different perspective.

“But in the world today, I don’t want a target on my child’s back. It’s dangerous,” Holmes commented.

While some users took exception to Holmes calling out the Daily Mail, others were quick to defend her.

“I’m so sorry. The media is out of control,” wrote one user.

Fashion and beauty mogul Gretta Monahan applauded Holmes and commented that “it should be against the law,” referring to the Daily Mail’s claims.

“It really should,” Holmes replied.

Holmes does her best to protect her daughter

Holmes started dating Tom Cruise in 2005 after the two were spotted on a romantic getaway following her split from Chris Klein, according to an Us Weekly report.

The couple got engaged just a few months later and welcomed their first and only child together the following year.

On Nov. 18, 2006, Cruise and Holmes tied the knot in a star-studded wedding in Italy. They were together for nearly six years before Holmes filed for divorce in 2012.

Since then, Holmes has kept her daughter out of the public spotlight as best she could — though she has spoken about her from time to time in various interviews.

In a 2023 interview with Glamour, Holmes said she likes to protect her daughter from the media.

“What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” she said.

“I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person,” she continued.

More recently, she spoke about being an empty nester as Suri Cruise headed off to college.“

Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy,” Holmes said of Suri Cruise in an August interview with Town & Country.
