Hayes, the 15-year-old son of beloved actor Kevin Costner, is making his first appearance on the big screen. He will be starring in his father’s latest passion project, a captivating two-part Western titled Horizon: An American Saga. In the film’s trailer, Hayes can be seen defying his on-screen mother, played by Sienna Miller, by refusing to hide in the basement during a violent attack on their home. Instead, Hayes’ character bravely declares, “It’s all right. I’m gonna be with dad,” and shuts the cellar door, symbolizing his connection to his father even in the face of danger.
Horizon: An American Saga is a significant milestone for Costner, as it marks his fourth directorial venture and his first in two decades since his 2003 Western Open Range. As for Hayes’ role in the project, not much is known about its size or significance.
Proudly speaking about his son’s performance, Costner shared with People magazine, “He’s very good. Hayes plays the namesake character that I actually play in the movie. He’s 13 years old, and the screenplay has been around longer than that.”
In a lighthearted manner, Costner playfully admitted that he intentionally gave his son the role to spend more quality time together. “I kind of did it on purpose, so he could be hanging out with me,” he said. “I’m like any other parent – I’m trying to figure out, like, ‘This is really neat. Interestingly, Hayes was named after a “cowboy character” from one of Costner’s planned Western movies, and now he gets to live out that cowboy fantasy in Horizon: An American Saga.
