Missing La Crosse Grad Student Found Dead, & Cause Of Death Revealed

A Wisconsin graduate student who went missing while walking home from a bar died by accidental drowning in the Mississippi River, the local medical examiner announced Wednesday.

Eliotte Heinz, 22, was the focus of an urgent four-day search after she disappeared following a night out with friends in La Crosse on July 20. According toย Peopleย magazine, officials reported that she had alcohol in her system but no drugs were detected.

The La Crosse County Medical Examinerโ€™s Office noted that her body showed no significant signs of trauma.

Eliotte Heinz was last seen around 3:22 a.m. on the 500 block of Front Street South, according to the La Crosse Police Department. Her school,ย Viterbo University, had become a central hub for volunteer search efforts before the tragic discovery.

Police are continuing to investigate the case, and her cause of death has not yet been determined.
