More Bad News For Alec Baldwin

Prosecutors Seeking New Charges Against Alec Baldwin In Shooting Death Of Cinematographer

In 2021, on the set of a movie called “Rust,” a tragic accident occurred, or was it an accident? While we may never know all the details of why a prop gun had real bullets inside it on set, what we do know is that the movie’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, was shot and killed on set during a rehearsal. The person holding the gun that killed her was actor Alec Baldwin.

Saying that Baldwin is responsible for Hutchins’ death is far from as straightforward as it may sound. The actor claims that Hutchins directed him to point the gun at the camera during the rehearsal, and he also claims that he never pulled the gun’s trigger. He also believed that the gun wasn’t loaded and defends why he didn’t personally check for himself.

To say that Baldwin isn’t responsible in any way for Hutchins’ death also isn’t easy, and prosecutors in New Mexico, where the shooting occurred, are now seeking new charges against Baldwin. They want to charge him with involuntary manslaughter.

Besides the fact that Baldwin was holding the gun, another reason he may be held responsible for Hutchins’ death is that he was a producer on the movie. That means he was partly responsible for any lack of gun safety on set even if he wasn’t responsible for the gun going off when it did.

As you can see, it might be hard to convince a jury that Baldwin is guilty of a crime, and a lot of that has to do with the gun itself, and the analysis about the gun. Learn more in the video below.

Do you think Baldwin will end up being convicted of something in relation to Hutchins’ death? Do you think the prosecutors should focus more on who put the bullets in the gun than whether or not Baldwin pulled the trigger?
