Donald Trump Faces New Criticism from Renowned Hollywood Actor

President Donald Trump, having returned to office in January 2025, continues to stir controversy. His array of policies from the debated โGolden Domeโ defense strategy to his rekindled interest in purchasing Greenland has put him under the spotlight yet again.
Trump’s administration has consistently drawn fire for its immigration enforcement tactics amplified by ICE agents. Not to mention, his name cropping up in the Epstein files has reignited public debate.
This time, esteemed actor Morgan Freeman has joined the chorus of critics, especially with the rising tensions involving Iran.
Karoline Leavitt, the current White House Press Secretary, commented on the President’s preference for diplomacy with Iran while warning that negotiating with the United States would be in Iran’s best interest considering their nuclear ambitions.
Strategic Options Concerning Iran
As reported by CBS News, it’s known that Trump has been briefed on potential military actions against Iran, but no definitive decision regarding military strikes has been made.
The possibility of escalation into a broader conflict has caused worldwide concern, moving the symbolic Doomsday Clock precariously close to midnight.
Morgan Freeman, in response, took to X, previously known as Twitter, to resurface a 2011 message by Trump that read: โIn order to get elected, @BarackObama will start a war with Iran.โ Freeman simply captioned it with, โThis you?โ
Consequently, this sparked intense discussion online, with some commenters arguing that Trump already holds office, removing any electoral motives related to war.

Fans of Freeman appreciated his sly yet pointed rebuttal, with praise showering his post for being one of the most memorable call-outs of its kind. A few people even called Trump a hypocrite.
In the days before the 2024 election, rumors surfaced falsely indicating Freeman was a Trump supporter. Putting these rumors to rest, Freeman’s team confirmed his lack of endorsement for Trump’s second term. Indeed, Freeman supported President Joe Biden in a 2024 campaign video alongside Bill Pullman and other actors, crafting a fictional presidential scene.
Freeman’s Criticism Beyond U.S. Borders
In an earlier effort, Freeman participated in a Committee to Investigate Russia video condemning supposed Russian interference in US elections under Trump’s watch, alongside discussing Trump’s rapport with Vladimir Putin. This led to Freeman’s permanent ban from Russia in 2022.
Morgan Freeman is not the only celebrity to vocalize disapproval. Giancarlo Esposito from Breaking Bad has advocated for radical change against ICE policy while Woody Harrelson revealed to the press his desire for a different leadership path from Trump.
In contrast, Trump still enjoys backing from stars like Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, who have defended his presidency.
Meanwhile, Oscar-winning talents such as Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro have openly denounced him.
Through his terse but impactful post, Morgan Freeman clearly outlined his thoughts on both the Iran issue and President Trump’s leadership.
