Throughout his seven years of dedicated service, Grant Harrold formed a warm bond with King Charles IIIโs sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. He fondly recalls the duo as a mischievous pair.

Sadly, after leaving Highgrove, Harrold was left disheartened by the intense estrangement that grew between the brothers.
In light of the allegations of conflict, Harrold felt it necessary to speak out.
In Prince Harryโs explosive memoir, “Spare,” he shares numerous harsh remarks about Prince William, describing a deep-rooted rivalry and referring to William as both his “beloved brother and arch-nemesis.”
“There has always been this really odd competition between us,” Harry remarked, highlighting what he saw as an ongoing sibling rivalry exacerbated by the traditional heir and spare roles. He also noted William’s longstanding discontent with Harryโs wife, Meghan Markle.
Among the more surprising claims, Harry alleges that during a conversation at his Nottingham Cottage residence, William once resorted to physically overpowering him in a discussion over Harryโs relationship with the former “Suits” actress.
“He seized me by the collar, breaking my necklace, and threw me to the floor,” Harry recounted. “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which shattered beneath me, its pieces cutting into my back.”
“I lay there, momentarily dazed, then stood up and ordered him to leave,” he continued.
However, Grant Harrold, who served as a royal butler to Harryโs father, now King Charles, for nearly a decade, firmly denies the princeโs allegations.

While Harrold acknowledges the brothers often engaged in playful disputes, he insists none ever led to physical confrontations.
“I never saw them fight,” Harrold confided to Tyla in an exclusive interview this week.
He added, “That doesnโt rule out William giving Harry a scolding or two when they were children – after all, he was the older brother.”
Harrold likens this dynamic to what is observed today between Prince George and Prince Louis, suggesting both Harry and Louis have been known to hold their own in sibling squabbles.
In a later interview with ITVโs Tom Bradby, Harry described witnessing his brotherโs alleged temper flare, mentioning, “I discuss the red mist that clouded my vision for years.”
“I saw that same red mist enveloping him – he wanted me to retaliate, but I decided against it,” Harry said.
Despite the acclaim surrounding “Spare,” Harrold stresses that, to his knowledge, any tense moments between William and Harry remained purely comedic, even without any official word from Kensington or Buckingham Palace on these serious allegations.
“I can confidently say that in all my years, I never observed a genuine fight, quarrel, or verbal clash between William and Harry,” he maintained.
“Had such an incident occurred, you would have heard about it since Highgrove isn’t very large. If someone raised their voice, everyone would know,” he explained.
Harrold continued, “So, Harry’s claim that William knocked him to the ground just doesn’t ring true.
“Violence isnโt in Williamโs nature – thatโs simply not who he is. Yes, he might get frustrated, but heโs not capable of fighting his brother.โ
In “Spare,” Harry shares an instance where his sister-in-law supposedly “grimaced” at a request from Meghan to borrow her lip gloss, leading to tears over a disagreement about Princess Charlotteโs bridesmaid attire.
Harrold shares, “Harryโs portrayal makes her seem difficult, unreasonable, and cold, especially concerning Meghan.โ

Harrold also said, โWilliam takes after his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, in that his family always comes first. He stands firm against unjust accusations.”
He observes that Harry appears to have transformed considerably over the years, raising questions about how recognizable he remains to his family.
Reflecting on his service to Charles, Harrold reminisces, “The Harry I recall was playful. In the book, thereโs a story of William and Harry playfully chasing me about Highgrove with water balloons. He had a mischievous streak – always ready to entertain.โ
“He enjoyed various pranks, often chasing me around the house. I’d dash up the stairs in mock terror, worrying about his next trick. Despite his humor, Harry also showed a deeply humble side.โ
