Tyler rose to international fame with some of the biggest songs of the 1970s and 1980s, including โItโs a Heartacheโ and โHolding Out for a Hero.โ

Her family and team announced the news in a statement shared on herย official websiteย Thursday, July 9, saying they were โheartbrokenโ by her death. According to the statement, Tyler died unexpectedly Wednesday night in a hospital in Portugal following an illness she had been receiving treatment for.
The family said more details would be released at a later time and asked for privacy as they grieve.

Tylerโsย health strugglesย began earlier this year when she underwent emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal in May. Following the procedure, she was placed in an induced coma. Her spokesperson later confirmed she had come out of the coma but remained seriously ill while receiving care in intensive care.
Over her decades-long career, Tyler became one of musicโs most recognizable voices, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable rock and pop anthems loved by fans around the world.
Born Gaynor Sullivan on June 8, 1951, in Skewen, Wales, Tyler grew up in a musical family and developed a love for singing at an early age.

She began performing in local clubs before launching her professional music career in the 1970s. Tyler achieved her first major success with the 1977 single โLost in France,โ followed by the international hit โItโs a Heartacheโ in 1978. The song became one of her signature tracks and helped introduce her powerful, husky voice to audiences around the world.
Her biggest career moment came in 1983 with the release of โTotal Eclipse of the Heart,โ written by Jim Steinman. The dramatic power ballad became a global sensation, reaching No. 1 in multiple countries and becoming one of the most recognizable songs of the decade.
Tyler continued her success in the 1980s with โHolding Out for a Hero,โ which became another fan favorite and gained lasting popularity through movies, television, and pop culture.
Bonnie Tyler married Robert Sullivan, who managed the club where she performed, in 1973. She later credited the strength of their decades-long marriage to the fact that they built their relationship before she found worldwide fame, perย People.
Early in her career, Tylerโs demanding performance schedule took a toll on her voice. After singing several nights a week, she developed nodules on her vocal cords and underwent throat surgery in 1976. During her recovery, her voice changed, becoming stronger and developing the distinctive raspy sound that would later become her trademark.
Tyler and Sullivan did not have children. The singer was open about experiencing a pregnancy loss in 1992 and later spoke about accepting life without children. She said she was grateful for the life she had built and continued to focus on her music, marriage, and career.
