He took to Truth Social late Thursday evening with a message that started as a typical festive greeting but quickly veered into a bitter discourse on immigration, crime rates, and political adversaries.
The president’s proposal for a halt on immigration was linked to a recent tragic incident in Washington, D.C., involving a suspect from Afghanistan. Trump accused lenient immigration policies of causing divisions within the country and criticized American citizens for accepting these changes.
At 79, Trump revisited his often-debated topics, pointing a finger at Somali immigrants and the issues he believes they bring to Minnesota. Earlier, he remarked to reporters that Somalians were a source of trouble, adding, “We will no longer accept them. Many are being sent back already because they only stir up problems.”
His narrative continued, casting Minnesota as a hotspot for financial deceit, arguing that Somali refugees are overwhelming the state.
Harsh Words for Minnesota’s Governor
In his controversial Thanksgiving post, President Trump sharply criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz using a derogatory term. He expressed frustration with the state’s approach to immigration, suggesting that the governor, whom he insulted, was ineffective, either due to fear or incompetence.
Governor Walz retorted on X, cheekily suggesting Trump should publicize his recent MRI results.

Critique of Representative Ilhan Omar
Trump also took aim at Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota, originally from Somalia, who has resided in the U.S. for three decades. He bashed her as the worst representative in the country, mocking her traditional dress and disparaging her birthplace as a troubled nation.
The president criticized current immigration policies, particularly with respect to Rahmanullah Lakanwal, the accused in the recent D.C. shooting. Trump administration had approved Lakanwal’s asylum request. Nevertheless, when pressed by a reporter citing thorough vetting processes, Trump dismissed her inquiry as foolish.
Future of Immigration Policy
Within his post, Trump claimed many immigrants originate from regions marred by instability and depend heavily on welfare. He renewed a call for freezing immigration from “Third World countries” so the U.S. could “recover from the strain.”
Further, he advocated for deporting foreign nationals seen as security threats or burdens, underscoring, “Only reversing this immigration trend can solve the problem.”
In alignment with these views, Trump had ordered a comprehensive review of green card holders from designated “countries of concern.” Joseph Edlow from Citizenship and Immigration Services supported this review, stating American safety is a priority.
Concluding his strongly worded Thanksgiving message, Trump nonetheless offered well-wishes but warned those who undermine American values, “You won’t be here for long!”
