It’s been half a decade since Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, decided to step down from their royal duties and leave the UK. They chose to settle under the sunny skies of California, where they live with their two adorable children, Archie and Lili, recently recognized with the titles of prince and princess.
However, word has it from sources close to the Duke himself that he’s starting to feel a sense of nostalgia for his former life, and he’s considering purchasing a home back in the UK.

Of course, the potential return to his homeland wouldn’t be a family affair. This is primarily due to Meghan publicly stating that the prospect of their children visiting the UK without assured security poses too great a risk. As neither Harry nor Meghan are working members of the royal family, they do not receive the security detail normally associated with royal life.
Last year, Prince Harry challenged the Home Office’s decision to end his security protection while in the UK.

When Prince Harry stepped away from royal duties, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) decided to withdraw his automatic police protection. They even rejected his proposal to pay out of pocket for his own security, as it’s impermissible for private citizens to hire British police services.
Harry expressed his disappointment through a statement, read by his lawyer Shaheed Fatima KC and reported by the BBC. “It was with a heavy heart that my wife and I felt compelled to step back and leave the UK in 2020,” the statement began.
“The UK is home to me. It’s crucial to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home, just like they do in the US. But that can’t happen if we can’t ensure their safety on UK soil,” Harry continued.
Reported by the Daily Beast, Harry has put pressure on his father to leverage his influence for boosting the family’s security during UK visits. Yet, insiders close to King Charles suggest it’s “entirely inappropriate” for him to contest a governmental decision.
The debate over police protection drove a wedge between Harry and his father.
Unfortunately, Harry and Meghan’s reluctance to visit the UK means their children have limited opportunities to get to know their British family, including their grandfather, uncle, and cousins.
According to many, Harry tends to cast himself in a victim role. However, royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams believes Harry has willingly exiled himself to the US.
“Harry has chosen exile,” Fitzwilliams told Fox News. “It’s a lonely road, and inevitably he’ll miss his friends and family. The Royal Family’s rift shows zero signs of healing anytime soon. King Charles, along with the Prince and Princess of Wales, certainly have different priorities now.”

“Meghan seems to be the leading force in their relationship,” he added. “I don’t doubt Harry wishes they could’ve negotiated a ‘half-in, half-out’ agreement with royal duties, especially given how much his military affiliations meant to him.”
British broadcaster Helana Chard opines that after the publication of his revealing memoir, Spare, there’s no way back for Harry.
“A self-assured, self-proclaimed, and enraged Prince Harry seemed to think it was entirely appropriate to verbally dismantle his family in public,” Chard remarked. “Some say he was naive, not realizing the upset it would cause among his kin and the public.”
Chard further states that Harry has displayed “indications of paranoid distress,” distancing himself from friends he deemed insufficiently aligned with his views, or whom he suspected of leaking stories to the media.
“He finds forming new, meaningful relationships socially awkward,” she concluded. “Having been sheltered growing up, his closest connections were made at school. But now, those friends are scattered miles apart, in different time zones, focused on their own lives and families.”
The bond between Harry and the rest of the Royal Family, especially his brother William, remains tense.
