Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have enjoyed more than six years of marriage. Their wedding in May 2018 was an event to remember, but it wasn’t long before challenges emerged. In just two years, the couple decided to step away from their royal duties, leading to a strained relationship with the UK royal family, including Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Harry and Meghan were introduced through a blind date in London and quickly grew fond of each other, with Meghan soon relocating to be with Harry. However, amidst Harry’s palpable affection for Meghan, his family harbored concerns. Prince William, in particular, advised his brother to take things slow, as he sensed something amiss.
Their relationship commenced with a dinner that could have started more smoothly. Meghan found herself waiting at Soho House due to Harry being delayed by traffic. “I was panicking, I was freaking out,” Harry later recounted. Once at the restaurant, his disheveled appearance quickly assured Meghan there was no ulterior motive to his tardiness.
“I was a hot, sweaty, red ball of mess,” Harry remembered, whereas Meghan found his embarrassment endearing. Their first date was “refreshingly fun,” and the very next day they were together again. Meghan, this time, was slightly late. As their bond grew, friends noticed Harry’s joy, and Meghan felt a unique connection despite the distance between them.
Unraveling Every Couple’s Struggles
In his memoir “Spare,” Harry shared about an incident in 2016 when he lost his temper during a conversation with Meghan. Whether the wine or his struggles with the press influenced his reaction, Harry admitted to speaking harshly, to Meghan’s dismay.
Afterward, Meghan calmly expressed her unwillingness to tolerate such behavior, prompting Harry to introspect. Their discussion revealed underlying issues that required professional help, which Harry decided to pursue with Meghan’s encouragement.
Upon Meghan’s introduction to Harry’s family, initial encounters were positively received, with Prince William and Meghan enjoying a good rapport. Yet, beneath the surface, William was uneasy about the rapid progression of his brother’s romance. Concerns about Harry being “blindsided by lust” reportedly led William to advise him to take time understanding Meghan.
William’s Doubts and Meghan’s Influence
William’s apprehension extended beyond Harry’s feelings; he was wary of Meghan’s intentions within the royal setting. Although he kept his reservations private, he pondered the possibility of Meghan prioritizing her public persona over royal responsibilities.
This tension mirrored the complicated relationships within the royal circle. Meghan and Kate did not forge a deep friendship as hoped, often stemming from their contrasting worlds and experiences.
According to commentators, Meghan had anticipated guidance from Kate in navigating royal life, but this did not materialize. Despite her disappointment, Meghan was not consumed by this, though she would have appreciated more support during media scrutiny.
Possibility of Reconciliation
Currently, the rift between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family remains widened. Speculation about future peace talks surfaces frequently, but any real resolution remains elusive. Meghan reportedly has certain conditions that must be met before contemplating reconciliation, including an apology from the royal family.
These demands complicate any potential reunion. Both Meghan and Harry have expressed a reluctance to bring their children to the UK without perceived adequate security, further entwining the situation.
The public continues to debate the likelihood of reconciliation. Will Harry and Meghan ever mend fences with the royal family? What are your thoughts? Do share!
