Despite any underlying tensions, William opted to keep his feelings private because he “desperately wanted her to be happy and understood the significant changes she faced joining the Royal Family,” according to an insider. While there might have been friction behind closed doors, the general public remained unaware. Nonetheless, just months before Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018, a royal expert suggested that William may have discreetly criticized Meghan in a speech at an event.
Alleged Subtle Remark by William at a Royal Event
Richard Eden, speaking on the Royal Confidential Podcast, recounted an uncomfortable backstage situation from Prince Harry’s book “Spare” where Meghan asked to borrow lipstick from Katherine, causing some unease. During the event, William supposedly made a comment in his speech that could have been directed towards Meghan. As Meghan advocated for causes like Me Too and Times Up, William allegedly remarked, “The task for us would not be to reinvent the wheel,” hinting at a controversial intersection with politics, deemed undesirable for the Royal Family.
Challenges Facing the Royal Family
Currently, Harry and Meghan are miles away from their royal relatives, yet their star power remains wherever they go. Concurrently, the royal family faces challenges with absentees like King Charles and Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla’s health issues. It is improbable that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will rejoin the Royal Family anytime soon. Their current relationship with the family seems beyond repair, making a reconciliation with Prince William unlikely. Though Harry is reportedly open to returning to the UK, potentially seeking a permanent home, Meghan seems more reluctant.
Despite Donald Trump’s threats of deportation looming over Harry, if issues with his visa application arise, he and Meghan have made arrangements by purchasing a residence in Portugal. This could serve as a “backup plan,” but the couple remains committed to residing in the U.S.
