R.I.P Prayers For Usher’s Family

Usher shared that he still feels sad about his stepson’s passing in 2012.

“It was really painful,” the singer who has won eight Grammy awards and performed at the Super Bowl LVIII said during an interview with People magazine.

Usher was married to Tameka Foster from 2007 to 2009, and together they have two sons, Usher V, who is now 16, and Naviyd, now 15. Kile Glover, Tameka’s son from a previous relationship, was like a stepson to Usher.

In 2012, Kile was enjoying a ride on an inner tube on Lake Lanier in Georgia when a watercraft, driven by a friend of the family, accidentally hit him on the head. Sadly, Kile was later taken off life support.

Usher mentioned that Tameka was in Italy when this sad event happened. “I had to arrange a private jet to bring her back because she was so upset,” he said. “We weren’t even together at that time. Losing a child is incredibly tough. There’s not a single day that his brothers and his mom don’t miss him.”

Usher also mentioned that he and Tameka still talk because of their sons, but admitted, “Honestly, we have more tough days than good ones.”

Then, in the following year, they faced another scary situation when their 5-year-old son, Usher V, nearly drowned in Usher’s pool in Atlanta. He got trapped in the pool’s drain, and it took two men working at the house to pull him out and perform CPR. Thankfully, he was okay and could breathe and talk at the hospital.

Usher told People that it was “one of the most difficult days of my life,” and he knew it was very hard for Tameka too. The court decided Usher wasn’t to blame for the accident. “I love my boys so much and would never let anything bad happen to them,” Usher explained. He added that he and Tameka are trying their best to raise their sons together.

In 2015, Usher married Grace Miguel, his former manager, but they separated in 2018.

Later, Usher started dating Jennifer Goicoechea, his best friend and a music executive. They had a daughter, Sovereign, in 2020, and a son, Sire, in 2021.

Usher and Jennifer got married on February 11, 2024, which was Super Bowl Sunday. They got their marriage license just three days before the wedding.
